ULTIMA UNDERWORLD DEMO


This is a playable Demo of the game Ultima Underworld from Origin.
I contacted Origin via their Customer Service line regarding
distribution of this demo.  If you have any doubts and need to contact
them call: (512) 328-0282.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

1.  RAM:  You must have at 640K of low RAM (memory) and 1 megabyte
          of expanded memory.  You must have at least 523K of low
          memory available at the DOS prompt to run the demo without
          sound or music.  Sound and music can increase the RAM
          requirement to 557K.

2.  EMS:  In addition to 523-557K of free RAM, you must have at least
          500k of expanded memory at the DOS prompt.

3.  HARD DISK:  You must have at least 4 megabytes of hard drive space
                available.


I have cut the demo up into six different Zips.  This makes
installation more complicated but also allows the demo to be
downloaded by slower modems within the time limits most Bulletin
Board Systems allow.

This is the list of Zips as I named them.  You will need all six.

To install the game you will need to make a directory with four
subdirectories.  I will call the game directory UWDEMO you can call
this directory whatever you want.  However, the subdirectories MUST be
named as follows:    CRIT
                     CUTS
                     DATA
                     SOUND

Hopefully your tree will look something like this:

UWDEMO
     |-------CRIT
     |-------CUTS
     |-------DATA
     |-------SOUND

Remember the four subdirectories MUST be named as shown.

First UNZIP the files you downloaded.  It may be less confusing
to do this one file at a time.  Now you need to move or copy the
files to the proper directories.

All the files in !UWADEMO.ZIP will be placed in the main directory
UWDEMO.

All the files in !UWCRIT.ZIP will be placed in the subdirectory
UWDEMO\CRIT

All the files in !UWCUTS.ZIP will be placed in the subdirectory
UWDEMO\CUTS

All the files in !UWDATA1.ZIP will be placed in the subdirectory
UWDEMO\DATA

All the files in !UWDATA2.ZIP will ALSO be placed in the subdirectory
UWDEMO\DATA.  This is not an error!  All files from !UWDATA1.ZIP AND
!UWDATA2.ZIP must be placed in the same subdirectory UWDEMO\DATA.

All the files in !UWSOUND.ZIP will be placed in the subdirectory
UWDEMO\SOUND.

    Are you still with me?  You should have everything where it
belongs now.
    To run the demo go to your directory UWDEMO and type UWCONFIG.
You will be asked about your sound and about the speed of your
machine.  After you are finished with the configuration you will drop
back to the game prompt UWDEMO\.  Type UWDEMO to begin the demo.
You will be in the self running demo loop until you hit a key or a
mouse button.
     The playable portion of the demo allows you to begin exploration
of the Stygian Abyss.  Use of a mouse is highly recommended.  However,
keyboard equivalents of all commands and a description of all demo
features can be found in a file entitled UWREADME.TXT in your UWDEMO
directory.
