Aided by the PGA tour after donating over 200 acres, Avenel came into existance seven years later. The course is divided into various zones. Holes 1-2 are fairly wide open. Holes 3-6 are surrounded by dense trees. Eight and nine break from the trees, while 10, 11, 12 and the tee on thirteen are in a valley, surrounded by trees and follow a creek called Rock Run. The remaining holes play in the open through gentle hills with sparse foliage. The JNU design was done using a scorecard, the book "Golf Courses of the PGA Tour" and from viewing the last eleven holes from the most recent Kemper Open. As in all my other courses I've tried to maintain realistic greens and traps. I always felt that a player should be rewarded for a great shot and not faced with a downhill four foot putt for a birdie. Hopefully I've accomplished that with this course. Thanks again for having enough interest to download this one. Other courses I've also been involved with designing: The TPC at Southwind (Federal Express Open) Firestone C.C. (World Series of Golf-south course) Forest Oaks C.C. (Home to the Greater Greensboro K-Mart Open) Dale Somerfelt Parma, Ohio June 23, 1991
