Arnold Palmer's Best 18 Holes of Golf

These holes were taken from the book, ARNOLD PALMER'S BEST 54 GOLF HOLES, 
written by Arnold Palmer and Bob Drum.  The book was published in 1977 by
Doubleday & Company.

I have had a great time constructing "fantasy" courses with the Jack
Nicklaus Unlimited Golf game, but decided that I wanted to try to dup-
licate an existing course or courses for a change.  A trip to my local
library turned up this book.  It was the only one that I could find that
had pictures, diagrams and a detailed description of cach hole.  In a
way, this is a fantasy course since all of these holes do not exist on
one course, but they are "real" holes instead of ones that I have 
dreamed up.

I will say that I tried to recreate the holes as best I could given the book's
content, but if some of them are not totally accurate, blame it on the 
gophers.  When there was no clear indication of the "lay of the land", I
took the liberty of letting the hole play gently downhill from the tee to the
green.  This makes things look a little better (I think).

In the book, Arnold Plamer talks about the 18 holes that he selected for a TV
show that turned out to be the father of the book.  There are other holes
mentioned, but there are few pictures and no diagrams of them.  The book is
interesting reading, and if you can find it, it is fun to read what he says
about the hole, then play it.  When he talks about major features, I have tried
to include them in the design.  For instance, in the 1963 US Open playoff, 
Palmer hit his drive from the 11th. tee at the Country Club in Brookline,
Mass. (1st. hole, this course) into a tree stump!   Just for fun,  you
will find a treestump in the bend of the fairway about driving distance from
the tee.  Unfortunately, JNUG is not quite sophisticated enough to allow you
to play from such a lie.

I won't go into great detail about each of the holes on this composite course,
but I would suggest that you try to locate a copy of the book and play a
round with it.  It was a lot of fun for me to build the course, and I hope you.
