Course: Bayside Country Club Location: Somewhere in northern New England JNUG Design: Dana Staples Acknowledgements: Although I've never met Jay Johnson & Scott Chesney, I hope they will not mind my appropriation of ideas, objects and backgrounds. Also thanks to all the other great object designers. Bayside Country Club is the first of a series of fictional courses which could be located in New England. As we all know, the glaciers of the Ice Age produced a rather harsh terrain throughout coastal New England. The fictional developers of these fictional courses were to cheap to really smooth out the land (even in areas where greens were to be located). As a result, careful observation of the terrain and shots which end up very close to the pin are really essential to good scores. Looking back over this course, I realize that I've broken most of the rules of good design - a 368 yard par 3, etc., but, the course is fun to play. Several of the holes require some planning before addressing the ball, since a full power drive or overswing will normally put the ball out of bounds. The course is a Par 78 and is approximately 8020 yards long from the Pro tees. This course, and each of my future courses will contain one unique feature. For Bayside, the club's membership grew too large to accommodate everyone's desired tee times. Hence, lights were added to allow for play to continue at night. The towers supporting the lights add some challenge to several shots. I hope you enjoy playing Bayside as much as I did designing it. If so, you might also like Lakeview Golf Club, my second design. I would welcome any comments or suggestions... Dana Staples 15 Apple Road, #22 Beverly, MA 01915
