Bay Bridge Greens Location: Chesapeake Beach, Virginia Beach, VA Type: Fictional Length: Out: 3538 - In: 3495 | Total: 7033 Difficulty: Moderate to Simple JNSE Design: (c) 1992, Gene Rodriguez III Bay Bridge Greens marks the second in my "De-constructionist" series (Seashore Dunes Golf Links, for JNUG being the first). As you may (or may not) recall, Seashore is located on the site of a former state park and wildlife preserve. In the same vein, Bay Bridge is located in an area of Virginia Beach known as Chesapeake or "Chix" Beach. This land contains some perfect "links" type terrain as well as some heavily wooded areas... unfortunately, it is also heavily populated with condos, apartments and shopping centers. Bring on the bulldozers! On of the great things about Jack Nicklaus Golf (both Unlimited & Signature Edition) is that through the design program, one can take any golf course concept and make it a reality. My current ideas in course design are inspired by terrain: if I see a good land plot, the urge to lay a course routing over it jumps instantly to mind. With Jack Nicklaus SE I can make those dreams into a (somewhat) tangible reality. But enough philosophy. At Bay Bridge Greens you'll spend the early part of your round on holes cut into a pine forest. Holes 1 & 2 are bordered to the west by the Navy's Little Creek Amphibious Base (if you hear small arms fire, its probably another mock assault on the beach by Navy SEALS). The front nine spends its time to the west of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT) in an area that was once accessed by Pleasure House Road and Shore Drive. Wooded and slightly longer than the back nine, 1 - 9 should find you in high spirits as you make the turn. The back nine shows the "other" side of Bay Bridge Greens, as what started as a wooded course gives way to mounded, sandy links. If the prevailing northeast wind is strong, you're in for an interesting ride, for it is the wind coming in off the Chesapeake Bay that gives this course its teeth. Holes 13 - 16 are laid out on the east side of the CBBT in an area that was known as Bay Lake Pines BD (Before the Dozers!) There is no "signature" hole at Bay Bridge, but the closing three holes are definitely the peak experience of your day here. Bounding down the beach toward the clubhouse, 16, 17 & 18 provide both beauty and challenge that will be long remembered. If you pay attention, you might catch a Navy Submarine or Hovercraft passing over the Thimble Shoals tunnel. I hope you enjoy your round(s) at Bay Bridge Greens and that you found this course worth the cost of the download. I'd be glad to hear any comments or criticisms you might have, and can be reached on Prodigy or the Accolade BBS. P.S. Designers and other observant golfers may note that the bridge "wraps around" the entire background. This is not to imply that the CBBT is circular, just that it is such a dominant feature of the landscape that is visible from almost any angle.
