COURSE: Butler National Golf Club DESIGN: Designed in VGA for JNUG by Ted Maiden COMMENTS: The only reference I had in designing this course was the book "Golf Courses Of The PGA". Where pictures were available, I have tried to maintain the look. The elevations were the hardest item to deal with, as I had no information at all. So, I have attempted to give it an "Illinois" look. There is a great deal of history here. Course records are posted with legendary names like Sam Snead. Formerly home to the Western Open, this course will bring you to your knees quickly. The rating here is 76.9. If Doral is the "Blue Monster", then surely, we can call Butler the "Green Monster". The fairways are wide, but you still must place the ball off most tees. Any trips off the fairway will usually cost you a couple of shots. Like Scott Chesney and Jaybird, I have put forth within the limits of the software, a supreme effort to remain religiously true to the actual design of the real course. Having played golf for over 35 years, I have a very deep love and respect for its principles and spirit of sportsmanship and I have tried to apply those qualities in delivering this course to the JNUG users. My handle on the Accolade Bulletin Board (1-408-296-8800) is "Maker". I am also on Prodigy. (NPNW54A). I hang out in the JNUG section (Other Games) of the Computer Club bulletin board. I hope you enjoy Butler National G.C. It's my first effort at a major, nationally known course. I encourage you to give me feedback on my design effort.
