The problem with the JNUG simulation is it still isn't exactly real golf. I have attempted to add a frustration level similar to real golf. In real golf, we do not always get level lies, and I see no reason why we should not take advantage of unlevel lies that create shots that don't go exactly as far as you want. Real golf shots include having to hit a much shorter shot on the side of the hill or using a different club than the computor says. Integral to the design of this course is the penalties you take for making less than a perfect shot. We would all get bored if only sandtraps, water and out of bounds were the only hazards. I have included verrrry deep sandtraps, grass bunkers, use of cart paths in different areas etc, to make the golfer pay the price of an errant shot. You will notice that going around this course there is very little out of bounds. This game is much more fun when you are faced with a very creative shot, such as a hard hooking 5 iron shot of 210 yds in order to avoid trees that have been placed in front of your ball. Real golf that I have played on good courses necessitates looking at the card to determine your shot. How many times do you get to your ball and find that it is in a tough position for your approach? Just because you can see the fairway doesn't mean you can just blast away. You will find yourself looking at the overhead often in order to make that good shot. This is a strategic game and you have to use strategy. Regarding doglegs on greens, I agree that extreme changes in yardages is not right. On the other hand, I have played countless rounds where the match is decided on which distance the pin is from the tee. I have had to walk off distances from the official marker to where the tees are and have discovered many times that the tee adds or subtracts many yards to the shot. Therefore, I have problem with slight variances between stated distance and actual distance. It is sort of like local knowledge in my book. By changing the configuration of the green, you can create a dogleg on the green even though one wasn;t originally there. Another distance error happens on doglegs. The 6th hole on Black Hills is a perfect example. In any case, even proffessional golfers keep their own yardage books and practice rounds are essential to scoring well in tournaments. Your local knowledge, and practice will result in much better scores on this course. If you expect to break par on the first round with out any study, then score my course low. If you want to play a strategic roundÔ h)Ô of golf, then you will enjoy this course. Another aspect of golf that I have attempted to simulate is the difference you will see between the the different tee boxes. Play all three tees to see what I mean. This course is really 3 courses in one. Believe it or not, it is actually a little harder for a real good golfer from the white tees than the blue. You will drive through fairways and end up in unusual situations if you blast away. Another pet peeve of mine is greens. This course attempts to emulate greens and the difficulty of putting given the shortcomings of this computor program. I have never heard of anyone one putting every green, and likewise I have heard of many 3 putt greens. I hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation once this year and 3 putted 12 greens! Don't tell me that the greens all have to be exact. The 17th hole on Black Hills will make some of you mad. I decided to leave it this way on purpose. How many of you remember Jack Nicklaus hitting a tee shot at augusta on a green and having it roll back in the water. I live close to Medinah, and having a chance to play there, putted a ball into the water. Sorry guys, this happens in real life so expect the unexpected of the greens as well. In keeping with tradition, you will find this course has 6 easy greens, 6 hard, and 6 real hard greens. There are big greens and little greens. Typically I tried to make the greens small when the tee shot is easy or on short par 5's. The shape of the greens is very different from most courses I have seen in Jnug designs. No two greens are alike and I have spent alot of time sculpting them. Rather than go into a lengthy explanation here, I will just tell you I have included long and short pars, dogleg right and lefts, easy approaches and hard ones. Easy greens and tough greens, and blind shots and a whole host of other creative things. Almost all objects are of my own design and many will only appear if you happen to be in the wrong place on the course. I also viewed every hole from reverse angle and am satisfied with how it looks from any angle. I have named the holes history in mind. Conjuring up the Black Hills in your mind give you the impression of a bleak area. There is some rich history in dem dare hills and I hope I gave you some indian education.Â` ÂÆ(#Æ The course was made from seaside land plot, all hills started at zero and it is supposed to be a no frills public course. The course routing used the plot after the hills were created and at no time did i do a lot of bulldozing in my editing of the holes. Now for the course yardages and comments. #1 par 4 blue©377 white©353 red©305 #2 par 4 ©429 ©390 ©352 #3 par 5 ©520 ©474 ©431Ô h)ÔŒ#4 par 3 ©240 ©181 ©149 #5 par 4 ©462 ©418 ©385 #6 par 5 ©487 ©471 ©441 #7 par 4 ©434 ©397 ©373 #8 par 4 ©458 ©442 ©416 #9 par 3 ©250 ©197 ©147 out: 3657yds 3323yds 2999yds #10par 4 ©385 ©313 ©280 #11par 4 ©337 ©315 ©286 #12par 4 ©468 ©404 ©343 #13par 4 ©474 ©452 ©403 #14par 4 ©455 ©400 ©347 #15par 4 ©421 ©394 ©358 #16par 5 ©619 ©578 ©505 #17par 3 ©157 ©138 ©122 * plays 20yds short #18par 4 ©412 ©392 ©312 in: 3728 3386 2957 total: 7385 6709 5956
