Notes on "DH_CPS.Zip" -- October 12, 1992 Course Name : Deane Hill Chip, Putt and Sand Location : Set adjacent to the 11th at Deane Hill GC Length/Par : 475 yards / 19-19-38 JNSE Design : Bill Permenter (Original design) Difficulty : Rating 39.3 Inspiration : The putting course at Nicklaus' Desert Highlands GC -- plus I needed a way to practice my bunker play. Comments about the course: Not much to say here -- only that I think the course is very difficult, and if you can break par here you have really done something. My favorite holes are the 4th, 11th, 15th, & the 17th. I love the way that JNSE handles bunker play. The extra roll that the sand wedge imparts may not be true to life, but it does make bunker play very challenging. I hope the course helps improve your bunker play. Other comments: 1) When going backwards (such as the 10th) remember the wind guage is off -- it's exactly backwards. 2) My new course "Beggars' Island" will also use the concept of "primary hole and secondary holes running backward". 3) Beside the "wind problem" on backward holes, the "background" can be a problem too (easily fixed though). Comments on Golf Programs as a whole: Ratings (100 perfect score - my humble opinion) 1) JNSE 95 2) JNUG 85 3) Links 386 PRO 83 4) Microsoft Golf 81 5) Links 80 6) PGA Tour 80 7) Greens 75 ** JNSE - I'm loving it more and more since I got my 486. Only things lacking are: 1) New swing animations 2) Need new clip art disk w/ good "digitized trees"! 3) I wish "wind" would react OK in any direction. Ball flight height is not any problem to me anymore (I'm use to it), and tournament play mode and computer golfers are very good -- my early criticisms were not valid. ** JNUG - An all-time favorite. When I had both it and the original Links, I spent about 70% my time with JNUG and only 30% with Links. ** Links 386 PRO - Looks great, loaded with features, great great courses, more great courses to come -- BUT IS NOT CHALLENGING FOR THE SERIOUS PLAYER!!! How anybody can enjoy shooting in the 50s round after round I will never know! I spend very little time now with the program, but still feel there is always hope! "Life is funny -- I had JNSE on my 386/20 and did not like it that much, I bought a 486 w/ SVGA just to play Links 386 PRO -- AND THEN FELL IN LOVE WITH JNSE" !!! ** Microsoft Golf - I'm a strange guy, I trashed my MAC for DOS about 3 years ago, and I detest Windows. If one has PCTools, XTree Gold, or Norton, old man DOS is very easy and very fast. Windows is the biggest "crock" around -- it is for the "idiots of today" -- people totally incapable of thought. I guess that why they adapted LINKS to it -- it also requires no thought!! ** LINKS - Looked great in its day -- but again played lousy. ** PGA Tour - If JNSE did not exist, and I wanted to play tournament play this is the program I would use. I love the fly-bys and the 7 courses are excellent choices. Program is loaded with unique features -- if it had "elevations" it might have been a great program. ** Greens - Scott, you've been "smelling" too many dirty diapers! I hope you enjoy the course. Thanks. Bill Permenter (713) 353-6227 Prodigy - GSTM14E Next - I'm presently working on another original design -- "Beggars' Island" set in the South Pacific. I still may do "Ballybunion" -- but I'm enjoying designing my own courses. Also, I still may convert more of my old courses.
