Oak Hill Country Club November 13, 1992 Rochester, New York Rendition by Michael J. Burdulis aka GIZ! Created during the period October to November 1992 Although I have lived in six cities now, my home is Rochester New York. I was not lucky enough to belong to Oak Hill but I did have three friends who did, so I got to play this great old course about a half dozen times a year. I always loved this old course, which is filled with character so I purchased and used the rendition done by Accolade for JNUG which was close to the real thing in it's layout, but obviously was still a weak effort, leaving off much of the elevations and emotion the real course brings one. Since getting JNSE and playing on Prodigy, I found the BBS's for JNSE and checked them out for an Oak Hill. None existed. As one of the top 30 courses in the US, I JUST HAD to undertake this task. Hope you enjoy my efforts. Oak Hill has been home to many different tournaments over the years and has been a very difficult course for the professionals to tame. The course was originally designed and constructed by the great Donald Ross in 1926. The current course, although modified in some places still is characterized by his touch. Robert Trent Jones first modified the course, prior to the 1956 open, he added 300 yards, repositioned some tees and bunkers, added some other new bunkers, all to accomodate the longer hitters. Further changes came in the late 1970's when George and Tom Fazio modified the old sixth hole, which then became the fifth hole, created the new sixth hole, installed the pond on the 15th hole and modified the 18th by moving both the green and tee back from the clubhouse. The course has hosted the 1984 USGA Senior Open; the 1980 PGA Championship; the 1956 US Open won by Cary Middlecoff; the 1968 US Open won by Lee Trevino; the 1949 US Amateur; and the 1989 US Open won by Curtis Strange. The contours and layout were recreated from three sources, a yardage book for Oak Hill, the program guide for the 1989 US Open (yes I was there!) and my memory which can always be a little fuzzy. I do not have all the real elevations, so many are from memory of how the course looked and played. If anyone can furnish better information I would greatly appreciate it and I will endeavor to update and correct the course. I purposely tried to make the course difficult but not overly unplayable. Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated. You can reach me on Prodigy , ID Number SGHH05A. I would like to especially thank Joe Blankenship for reviewing the course before it got released to the BBS's and for his other helpful input. He offered me ideas on color corrections, which everyone must know by now I need, some better object placements, some better ideas on elevations on the 'bridges' pointed out several misspelled words, (funny how they always look right!), I would like to think I have made a friend in Joe, he has released numerous courses now, and I have not found one I dislike. If he permits I will use him as a sounding board on future releases. I wish to also thank all those you participate on Prodigy and share their ideas and methods, folks like Mark Willett, Lee Ritze, Scott Chesney, Dave Dykeman, Gene Rodriguez III, Bob Polin, Joe Blankenship (again) and of course, Ted Maiden to name a few. Being colorblind and NOT an artist I 'borrowed' everything in the the objects and the background. I would like to thank my Daughter Tracy for her help in and input in the color changes I made. I would like to thank the following people for the borrowed items, I am listing them by where I got them, it may or may represent the orignal designer, however, with the huge influx of new courses some of the original object designers may not get the credit they are due. If I incorrectly credit someone my apology in advance. BACKGROUND - Modified colors and added Sun. Borrowed from Lakewood by CRONOS, who apparently borrowed it from elsewhere. Whoever Thank you. (This background also came from Badgerland, it may be a Mike Vos design). 150 Yard Bush - Color modified, borrowed from SF Bay by Bob Polin TV Tower - From Firestone by Dale Somerfelt, colors modified Golfers - From Firstone also. Wild Flowers in roughs - Colors Modified from Scorpion by Mark Willett Geese - From Muffin Hills by Revery Cattails - From OSU Scarlet by Lee Ritze, colors and size modified. Willow Tree - Modified from Interlachen by Alan Pajari Other objects I believe are generic. The Clubhouse was extensively modified but I do not remember nor did I note where the original came from. For any other object I did not give credit to the originator please let know and I will update this text file to give correct credit. I enjoyed all the work I put into this course and hope ya'll do too. Obviously I do not have the rights to Oak Hill, Accolade probably does, so this course will be uploaded first to Double Eagle and then the 19th Hole at some point, while Accolade will probably not permit it on their board. Please feel free to pass this course onto whomever may enjoy playing it.
