Welcome to Schenley Park Golf Course. This is a real course located in the Oakland Section Of Pittsburgh Pa. A park setting with the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Carnegie Museum, Phipps Consveratory and Heinz Chapel all within walking distance.Phipps Conseratory has been in bloom for nearly a century, founded in 1893 has become Pittsburghs growing tradition. A stroll through historical Phipps Conservatory in Schenley Park provides the visitor with a fascinating look at the diversity of the plant kingdom. Thirteen display rooms encompass the permanent collection ranging from lush tropicals to unusual Xerophytic (desert) plants. Special features of the season include AQUATIC GARDENS; the OUTDOOR GARDEN of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, and herbs; and the recently constructed JAPANESE GARDEN complete with a premier collection of Bonsai. For more information and updates on programs call 412-622-6914. The course and the park are operated by Citiparks, City of Pittsburgh Department of Parks and Recreation. There are activities all year round for every age group. Skating (winter & summer: Rollerblade) at the Schenley Ice Rink, concerts, Free movies at dusk on selected dates and the Mellon Jazz Festival at Flagstaff Hill. Youth instruction for swimming, hockey, tennis, golf and Senior Citizen programs. The hills are very long and high with widening roads. This is the cite of the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. In its tenth year vistors were thrilled by the sight of over one hundred pre-1961 sports cars in world class racing at its best. The event remains the only vintage car race in the United States sanctioned intrenationally by both the Canadian Vintage Racing Association and Vintage Car Club of Ammerica. With its 2.25-mile spectator- lined course it is worth seeing. This event is held in July. Call 412-471-7847 for more information. The golf course celebrated its 100th year in 1989. The score card reads SCHENELY PARK Golf Course, SCHENLEY PARK CENTENNIAL 1889-1989. I thought I would do this course before it is changed. Jack Nicklaus was in to look at it. Plans are to make it a premier nine hole course. He would design it. There is oppostion to the change by many residents. The senior citizens feel the green fees would be high and they would have to put up hundreds to join the club. An 18-hole (4.680 yards) GOLF COURSE is located in the heart of the city of Pittsburgh in Schenely Park and is open year-round. The clubhouse includes locker and refreshment facilities. This tournament is scheduled for Thursday, June 25th, at 8 a.m. Fee: $5.00. SENIOR MEN'S CITY GOLF TOURNAMENT: This 18-Hole tournament is open to men ages 55 and older.
