First, my objective was to design a course that was suitable for tournament play, yet was not so difficult that the "Sunday Duffer" would be discouraged. Second, I wanted to design something that was unique and would be remembered. And lastly, I wanted to design a course that required both an attack plan and the use of all clubs in the bag. I hope I have accomplished these goals. The test will be what others think of it. Something I have not seen much are courses carved out of the swamplands of the south. I'm sure they are there, I just haven't seen nor heard of them. I figured that such terrain would be difficult to work with and result in a very unique course. The course plot used in this design is purely my own. I started with a clean slate. I tried to create a typical swamp terrain. It is fairly flat and filled with water. This particular piece of land is also on the ocean. This gave me the opportunity to use both the swampland aspects as well as some beach front terrain. Note: the land plot does not show water, or sand, which was placed during the creation of each hole. My major aim in course design is to create difficulty yet maintain fairness. I dislike courses were the fairways are extremely narrow with heavy rough lining the fairways. Or, terrain that punishes what appears to be a perfect shot, like rolling from the middle of the fairway into the deep stuff, or worse! The course difficulty should be in the design. This is what I strived to achieve. As with most such efforts, this was a labor of love. More than any other effort of mine, I was able to live this creation. Somehow the land features seemed to spring to life on each hole. It truly was an experience to design this course.
