University Ridge Golf Course Created by Don Blotner 10/91 - 2/92 [See end of file for notes regarding Signature Edition version of this course.] A newly constructed Robert Trent Jones jr. course for the University of Wisconsin, Madison campus. A public course no less! The course officially opened in the spring of 1991 and there have been a few changes made including the destruction of the old barn you see behind the hole on # 5. The mounds and one hole with no sand are trademark RTJ jr. The radically different environments you experience from the front (links) 9 to the back (wooded) 9 make this a true pleasure to play. Unfortunately JNUG is lacking in the ability to place thick Kentucky Bluegrass around the greens (the kind that swallows your club) or to be able to place "elephant" grass and wild flowers where you see out of bounds. This is my second course and I feel as though I have learned an enormous amount in building this one. I was able to incorporate a custom flag and the contouring experience should help me in the re-working of my first course, Wild Cat Run.(widcat.zip on accolade & Double Eagle bbs) Thanks also to "Maker" for the hint on fairway appearance (the dreaded pancake look). The distances are right on the score card, but because there are 4 sets of tees the women's tees are halfway between the actual women's tees and the easiest men's tees. Visual perspective and the awesome power of the program have been considered on each hole so that it plays more true to life. Whether you go over 100% on your swing is up to you. Try to visualize at least what it plays like in real life. You can find this course on Accolade bbs and Double Eagle bbs although I uploaded to Accolade before I wrote this text file. I would appreciate some feedback so I can continue to refine my efforts. The head pro and Director of Golf at University Ridge have both played on the screen and loved it. At least I know it "looks right." Leave me a note on Double Eagle if you care to (my user name is don blotner) or drop me a note in the mail. My address is 4568 Green Ridge Rd. Oregon, WI 53575 Signature Edition Release Notes: Reworking completed on 4/14/92 Changes from JNUG II version: 1) All of my objects needed touch up and "filling in" 2) I have scoured the couse in build hills and zoom mode to try to eliminate "holes" in the fairways as well as adjusting heights to reflect the new visual perspectives and more realistic power capabilities for any given club. 3) I decided to use brighter color schemes for my objects than the rather bland blending of the S.E. objects 4) I have added the fourth tee on all holes that I lamented about earlier in this text file 5) All of the O.B. areas have been changed to thick rough and this now reflects the course as it truly plays. Alas the fringe around the greens is still not the dreaded Kentucky Blue. 6) Overall distance has not changed and remains within 2-300 yards of total distance from the various tees for a round, and as I noted earlier the slopes if anything were toned down slightly 7) Because of the increased number of objects that can be placed on a hole I was able to fill in around the sides with the trees. While this will not affect play (first version had them where they had to be) it is more real from the visual perspective. 8) I think I finally corrected all the typos and miscredits this time in the .txt file. Enjoy the course and I can still be contacted as listed before. Chow for now... Don B p.s. for those who played this course before S.E. the deer are still there, I couldn't resist! end..
