Review of Picture Puzzle v.1.3 by Stan Hallett, President Mid-Coast Computer Society of Maine April 1992 ***************************************************************** I wasn't sure what this program was as I loaded the diskette in my B:> drive, but I told the author Dan Linton that I would be glad to take a look at it. I must say that one of my favorite things to do is play computer games. I guess you would say that I'm just a big forty year old kid. So when I found out that this was a puzzle I was anxious to take a look at it. The first thing that I liked was the great looking graphics. I have a VGA for a reason and I like to see it put to use. The graphics were great! I then found that the game was mouse friendly, and since I had a pet mouse I liked this feature. This shareware game comes with three puzzles, but you'll get ten puzzles by registering the game for a mere $15. This would be a good game for young children and adults because you can select the puzzle to only be a four piece puzzle, all the way up to a 1400 piece puzzle. Once selected, it will randomly shuffle the pieces right on your screen. Now you get to put it back together using your mouse. To run picture puzzle you need at least 640K of memory, an EGA or VGA display and a Microsoft compatible mouse. By giving you the option of selecting the number of tiles in which the picture is divided, you can set the difficulty of the puzzle. You mark the tile you want by clicking the mouse on it, then click the location you want to move to. Clicking the right mouse button brings a pull-down menu from which you can look at what the completed puzzle should look like. You can save the puzzle, or you can turn the grid lines off and on. The puzzle will also tell you how many moves it took you to complete the puzzle and how many moves were correct. The cheat keys will help you by moving the tile into the correct position if you get stuck. This program will work with any 640x350x16 PCX, GIF, or PUZ images, so you can build your own personal collection of puzzles. You can download Picture Puzzle v 1.3 from your local BBS by downloading PPUZZ13.ZIP. Congratulations to Dan Linton of Software Creations BBS for such a great game! Incidently, Software Creations BBS os the official BBS for all the Apogee Software games. These are some of the best available today, including commercially!
