DISASTER AT POLTAVA The first three shuttle raids were conducted in early June 1944, with American bombers flying over deep targets and then continuing on to bases in Russia. On the 21 of June 1944, the Americans conducted a "shuttle raid" over Berlin, with the attacking B-17s and escorting P-51Ds ending up in Poltava. Unfortunately for the Americans, the entire mission was shadowed by a Ju88 reconnaissance plane. Shortly after midnight, eighty He111s and Ju88s from the 4th Air Corps attacked the Poltava airfield, illuminated by flares. The American losses were immense - over 47 B- 17s were destroyed and a large quantity of materiel was also destroyed. One German crewman remarked, "Not since Barbarossa have we done so well. It reminded me of the old days." MISSION Your He111 is leading the attack on Poltava. Use the 32 x 110 pound bombs option and make several passes over the airfield and destroy as many planes as possible. Enemy fighter opposition is expected to be minimal. Destroy at least 3 enemy planes in order to claim success. NOTES This is a night mission, use NITEOWL.PAC copied over VGA.PAC for the best effect. SCENARIO DESIGN BY Gregory M. "Sturmer" Smith x
