SHTURMOVIKS OVER KURSK

Called the "flying tank" by its creator,
S.V. Il'yushin, the Shturmovik was
affectionately called "Il'yusha" by the
crews.  At Kursk, the Shturmovik made a
name for itself as symbol of Soviet
air power.  On the 7th of July, 1943,
during the fierce battles of Kursk, the
Il-2s flying against the 9th Panzer
Division were credited by Russian sources
with having destroyed over seventy tanks
in just twenty minutes.

MISSION

You are to stop the German attack
spearheaded by the crack 9th Panzer
Division.  You must destroy at least 7 of
the "tanks" (represented by individual
guns in the flak batteries) surrounding
the designated target area to consider
this mission a success.

NOTES

This is a normal day mission.
