THE DNIESTER RIVER BRIDGE

On the 20th of March 1944, Hans Ulrich
Rudel begins his 8th sortie of the day
against a bridge spanning the Dniester
River, as the Germans are pulling back
behind it.  Intercepted enroute by more
than twenty Soviet Lagg fighters, he
nevertheless works his way to the bridge
where the #3 man has the decisive hit
which topples it into the river.
Landing in a soggy field to retrieve two
downed fliers from his squadron.  His
Stuka becomes mired in the mud, and the
four Germans are forced to run down to
the ice cold Dniester River and try and
escape the approaching Russians by
swimming across.  Henschel, Rudel's rear
gunner, drowned while crossing.

                MISSION

The bridge crossing the Dniester must be
destroyed to assist the defending German
ground forces.  The mission is a failure
if the bridge is not destroyed.  Use your
rear gunner to hold off the La-7s until
you can finish your mission.
