ANDESITE (TrueTypeª) Version 2.1.0 (7/8/91) ©1991 James M. Harris. All rights reserved. IMPORTANT NOTE: This version fixes all printing problems and postscript errors associated with imagesetter output. ANDESITE is a beautiful TrueType display typeface based on Plaza (formerly called Playboy). This font has uppercase characters, numerals, and punctuation only. There are numerous alternate swash characters for most of the characters (11 characters have two alternates). It was created entirely with LetrasetÕs FontStudio 2.0 (release version). There are now also over 300 kerning pairs. ALTERNATE CHARACTERS------------------------------ ANDESITE includes many alternate capitals, and since there is no lowercase character set, I used the uppercase equivalent for alternates, and the lowercase equivalent for primary caps. Example: Pressing ÒShift-AÓ will get you the swash character, while simply pressing ÒaÓ will get you the primary character. The only character that doesnÕt have an alternate is the letter ÒO.Ó Besides these alternates, several characters have a second alternate as follows: ÒAÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift AÓ ÒBÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift BÓ ÒDÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift DÓ ÒEÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift EÓ ÒFÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift FÓ ÒHÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift HÓ ÒKÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift KÓ ÒMÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift MÓ ÒOÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift OÓ ÒRÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift RÓ ÒTÓ second alternate, press Òoption-shift TÓ DESIGNSTUDIO AND READY,SET,GO! USERS: DesignStudio and Ready,Set,Go! may not always display and print special alternate characters in a FontStudio font. Both page-layout applications default to the standard Symbol characters if the upper register of ASCII characters is mapped differently from the standard font map. The solution (using Apple's ResEdit utility) is as follows: 1. Launch ResEdit and open a copy of the DesignStudio (or RSG) application (Never work on the original!). 2. Locate the STR# resource and open it. 3. Open STR# 556. 4. Click on the last row of asterisks in the lower left of the window. A rectangle will appear around the asterisks. 5. Select NEW (or Insert New Field(s) if you are using ResEdit 2.0 or later) from the File menu and then click the pointer in the new font name entry area that appears and type the unique font name the unique font name in this area. You must enter the unique font name exactly. Character for character, spelling, correct upper and lowercase usage, and spacing between words is crucial. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 (always clicking on the current last row of asterisks) for each font for which you need the special (option or option-shift) characters properly displayed and printed. 7. When you are done adding all the font names to the program, choose Quit from the File menu and then click Yes to save the changes. DesignStudio (or RSG) should now properly display and print the special characters for each font whose name you've added to the program using this procedure.
