{FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE} {ARTISOFT ANNOUNCES RECORD SALES {AND EARNINGS FOR QUARTER ENDED {DECEMBER 31, 1991 (TUCSON, Ariz. -- January 16, 1992) -- Sales of Artisoft, Inc., for the second quarter ending December 31, 1991, were $17,030,000, a 79% increase from the $9,511,000 reported for the same quarter a year ago. Net income for the latest quarter was $3,211,000 or 19 cents per common share according to Jack Schoof, Artisoft's President and CEO. Comparable figures for last quarter was affected by a $2.6 million expense resulting from the exercise of a stock option by a key employee. The one- time charge amounted to approximately 11 cents per share. For the first half of the current fiscal year, sales were $31,513,000 and net income was $5,410,000, up 74% and 106% respectively from the same period last year. The company is increasing its sales efforts in foreign countries, which during the most recent quarter, accounted for approximately 26% of sales. In December, 1991, Artisoft announced the formation of a subsidiary in Japan which will market and provide technical support for Artisoft products in that country. Artisoft, based in Tucson, Arizona, manufactures a full line of hardware and software for local area networks including the LANtastic Local Area Network.
