==================ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION===================== Effective the first week in May, 1992, there will be a change to the schedule used in posting and the distribution of The Hack Report. This is due to popular demand, and due to the fact that the report seems to have "caught up" with the backlog of hacks that existed prior to its inception. Starting in May, The Hack Report will be published in its entirety on the first Thursday night of every month. Every subsequent Thursday night, an update to the report will be published. The full report and every weekly update will be sent out via the FidoNet International Shareware Echo, as well as the WildNet and RIME shareware conferences. The full monthly issue of The Hack Report will be the _only_ version distributed as an archived file. Updates will only be distributed via the echos, but will be incorporated into the next full monthly report. The archive version of the report will contain two extra files: a plain ASCII text file containing just the names of the suspicious files listed in the report, and a file describing where to get the latest archive version (as well as where the updates are posted). The ASCII list may be used by SysOps to compare against their BBS's file listing. To match the new monthly distribution, the filename format will change to a simpler layout. The new format will be: HACKMMYY.* where MMYY is the month and year of the issue (e.g., 0992 for the Sept. 1992 issue), and * is the archive type (.LZH, .SDA/.SDN, etc.). I believe this will make life easier for everyone, especially SysOps who post the report as a bulletin (only one change a month now!). It will also cut down on the size of the Friday traffic. Please continue to send reports of fraudulent files to me through this echo or via NetMail - it won't be a wasted effort. The Hack Report is working, if the tremendous response it has received is any indication. Only with your help can it continue to work. Thanks for helping to keep shareware clean!
