To Anyone Using LASI, This should be the last update of LASI Version 4.1. Rewriting and testing of LASI Version 4.2 is well underway, and it should be available in a couple of months. LASI 4.2 contains a memory manager that makes allocating maximum numbers of objects or ranks a thing of the past. When LASI 4.2 loads a cell, it allocates the number of boxes, paths, etc. as the cell requires and not by some fixed quantity. LASI 4.2 also makes better use of conventional DOS (<640K) memory because it packs the objects of a cell into memory with minimal unused gaps and gives back memory that isn't needed. My first impression when running a preliminary LASI 4.2 is that using conventional DOS memory for object data storage is more than adequate if you use cell nesting properly. In fact, you find that you can have so many objects in a single cell that working with the cell becomes awkward. For this reason, LASI 4.2 will still use conventional DOS memory only and not XMS or EMS, with any possible memory extension schemes left for future LASI versions. Present LASI 4.1 drawings will be immediately compatible with LASI 4.2, or a simple converter will be supplied. If you have licensed LASI you will receive 4.2 automatically. If you are using LASI for non-profit or educational purposes, let me know that you want 4.2. If you got LASI from a network (Internet) keep checking for LASI 4.2 to be uploaded. Dave Boyce
