Pleamonn lamps are designed in accordance with sound ergonomic principles. Ergonomic features make workers more comfortable; increased comfort translates into increased productivity. Today's desks and work areas are either smaller than they used to be or are crowded by equipment such as personal computers. There is a huge installed base of partitioned workstations. Lighting designed for these workstations must make better use of space to improve the work environment. Products that combine functionality and space-saving will become more and more popular in the near future and into the middle of the decade. Pleamonn Products has developed a family of lamps of different size, wattage, and configuration, intended for use with personal computers, typewriters, rack-mounted and desktop electronic instrumentation, musical instrument keyboards, medical equipment, etc., - in short, any application where uniform illumination of such features as keyboards, copyholders, digitizers, control panels, knobs, switches and liquid crystal displays is required with absolutely minimal obstruction of vision or physical access. Some of these lamps require no desk space whatsoever! To compete in the 90's, manufacturers must design space-efficient products. Lamp designers are constrained by the standardized size and shape of Underwriters Laboratories' listed sockets, ballasts and other lamp components. Many of these date back fifty years and are difficult to integrate into a modern, compact design. Few lamp companies attempt to UL qualify their own components and this severely limits their options. The extremely compact design of Pleamonn lamps was made possible by developing many of our own components, which are much smaller than commercially available versions. Our products are designed to conform to the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and to meet the requirements of Underwriters Laboratories' Standard UL 153, "Portable Electric Lamps". We intend to secure UL approval for the product in 1992. G. Ross Fleming, the designer of the lamps, has 29 patents in the display and lighting fields. He has published in Proceedings of the Society for Information Display and has been a lecturer at the Aerospace Lighting Institute.
