MITSUBISHI INTRODUCES DIAMOND PRO 17 COLOR MONITOR Autoscan Monitor Offers High Performance, On-Screen Color Calibration NEW YORK, June 23, 1992 -- The Information Systems Division (ISD) of Mitsubishi Electronics America, Inc. today announced the introduction of the Diamond Pro 17, a high-performance color monitor for PCs, Macintoshes and UNIX-based systems. The autoscanning monitor offers a wide compatibility range, Diamond Match Color Calibration System for matching on-screen images with hardcopy colors, low magnetic emission design and microprocessor-based front panel controls in a compact enclosure. "The Diamond Pro 17 is competitive with the best 17-inch monitors in its class," said Craig Sloss, product marketing manager for Mitsubishi ISD. "We offer higher apparent brightness, a larger display area, a much more compact design and a price competitive with most 17-inch flat square monitors. "This monitor will appeal to four groups," Sloss said. "Users who want the best desktop monitor for Windows, Open Look or the Macintosh graphics environments; users needing a high-performance monitor for CAD/CAM/CAE, but can't spend the additional $1,000 required to purchase a 20-inch monitor; UNIX users upgrading from monochrome monitors; and printers, designers and other users who need the Diamond Match Color Calibration System." The Diamond Pro 17 is the first Mitsubishi monitor to use a 17-inch CRT and the first to have an aperture grille cathode-ray tube (CRT). Other Mitsubishi monitors use precision inline spherical faceplate or flat square CRTs. The Mitsubishi monitor features the Diamond Match Color Calibration System, a microprocessor-based method of adjusting the on-screen colors to match hardcopy, Pantone or other color samples. The Diamond Pro 17 has a low magnetic emission design, meeting all U.S., Canadian and international standards, including MPR II. The Diamond Pro 17 has an aperture grille pitch of 0.26 millimeters (mm). It is compatible with all medium- and high-resolution graphics standards from 640x480 through 1280x1024 at 60 Hz non-interlaced. The monitor is well suited for the popular flicker-free 1024x768 high refresh rate of 70/72 Hz non-interlaced. Other standards it runs includes VGA, SVGA, XGA, 8514/A; Macintosh II, LC and Quadra; UNIX-based systems such as Silicon Graphics and Sun Microsystems; and most third-party graphics cards. The autoscan range frequency is 30 to 64 kilohertz (kHz) horizontal, 50 to 130 Hz vertical. User controls are all microprocessor-based and located on the front panel of the monitor. The digital scan mode memory stores up to 12 different operating frequencies, with display parameters remaining constant when switching between frequencies. User controls also adjust brightness, contrast, vertical size and position, horizontal size and position, convergence, on-screen colors, memory reset, degauss, pin cushion amplitude and phase, and key balance. The Diamond Pro 17 comes standard with Diamond Matte anti-glare coating on a dark tinted CRT, reducing glare from ambient lighting. Some competing 17-inch monitors only offer anti-glare screens as an expensive option. The monitor comes with an integrated tilt/swivel base, and a VGA signal cable. Cable adapter plugs for workstations, Macintosh II, LC and Quadra connectivity are available at a nominal charge. The Diamond Pro 17 has a two-year warranty covering parts and labor. Suggested retail price is $1,599. It will be shipping in volume by mid-June.
