DCB maker Procomp launches duplexing promo to dealers, trainers,
maintainers; reduces prices by $237, to $529; increases system safety,
speed.

     Procomp USA, Inc. (Cleveland, OH) introduces a new SCSI duplexing kit
with an aggressive price promotion to its resellers, which it's also
extending to trainers and to any qualified CNE (Certified NetWare(R)
Engineer). The kit includes two of Procomp's hallmark DCB (Disk
Coprocessor Board) intelligent SCSI Host Adapters, plus cables and
utilities, all for $529 (cost to partici-pating resellers and OEMs), a
$237 savings against their regular $766 dealer cost. This is a limited
time (summer 1992) offer.

     The true savings of this promotion become evident with a look at the
manufacturer's suggested US resale price of the separate items, which
totals $1196. The F-DCB (a fast-throughput DCB with on-board floppy disk
controller) is $499, the M-DCB (standard DCB) is $399, DRAPAK Dynamic
Read-Ahead drivers are $99, the DCBSET5 configuration utility is $169 and
the two internal ribbon cables are $30.

     "This is one of those things we should have done a long time ago,"
says General Manager Brian Davis. "Our customers very frequently are
buying DCBs to go into duplex installations, and we just never got around
to prepackaging it for them. But the need to do so really became manifest
earlier this year, when we saw how little they understood the benefits of
duplexing for speed and safety over almost any other alternative,
including RAID. This new duplexing kit and our price promotion are our
form of missionary work on the whole theme of duplexing."

     Davis adds that the decision to include CNEs and trainers in this
promotion is another aspect of this "missionary work".

     "The more we thought about duplexing, and what it takes for people to
get to know it, the more we came across CNEs and trainers as the
legitimate advice-givers at today's LAN installations. This is a small
first step to becoming much more supportive and participative with these
crucial partners in networking."
