Seikosha shows, ships new Imagewriter(R) II-compatible wide-carriage SP-2415AP printer; now Apple Macintosh(R) users can do wide-carriage impact printing. Seikosha America Inc. (Mahwah, NJ) showed production models at PC Expo as it began shipping its new wide-carriage impact printer for Apple Macintosh(R) users with full Imagewriter(R) II monochrome compatibility. Large corporate site managers were among show attendees to express immediate interest in it as the first-ever Mac- specific wide-carriage impact printer; its narrow-carriage sibling is already a Seikosha best-seller. The new wide-carriage Model 2415AP is available for $569 (all prices suggested US resale at participating dealers or direct; inquiries invited). The narrow- carriage Model SP-2400AP is $389. The new SP-2415AP features legendary Seikosha reliability (4,000 hours mean time between failures, 100 million character print head life with typical usage) and quiet operation (55dBA). It has a 300 cps super-speed draft mode. It offers a selection of built-in draft, NLQ or proportional fonts (supporting 256 downloadable characters) at a 9-17 cpi pitch range. And its wealth of user-demanded features includes auto-loading continuous forms or cut sheets, paper parking, one-inch tear-off and front-panel pitch and margin selection. Its rear paper path push tractor accepts 4.5-16-inch wide continuous forms. A top paper path accepts letter, legal, A4 and B5 cut sheets; a single-bin cut sheet feeder option is also available. The SP-2415AP is also a virtuoso at dot graphics in eight densities: 576, 640, 768, 856, 960, 1088, 1152 or 1280 dphi. Its character-printing attributes include emphasized, double-strike, double-width, half-height, proportional, italic and super/subscript characters. In addition to its Imagewriter II emulation, the SP-2415AP also features a fully Imagewriter II-compatible mini-DIN 8-pin serial interface, which can operate at 1200, 2400, 4800 or 9600 bps data rates. Many printing characteristics fall under the control of six front-panel switches (power, on-line, NLQ/LF/Font, FF/Pitch, Paper Park/Margin and Shift) and four indicators (power, on-line, NLQ and paper empty).
