May 1, 1992 -- Herndon, VA: Truvel today announced the introduction of the
TruScan 3D Color Scanner. According to George Patrick, Vidar's Vice
President of Sales, "Our new 3D zoom color scanner produces sharper,
brighter 24 bit color images with resolutions ranging from 75 to 900 dpi.
I would like to emphasize that 900 dpi is the true optical resolution of
the scanner, without software interpolation, and all of this is available
at a significantly lower price."

With the TruScan 3D color scanner, the user is able to scan single sheets
or bound documents up to 12" x 17". Images are scanned face up, in full
view all the time. The Truvel scanner travels over the object, not under a
glass. This feature allows the scanner to capture images of 3D objects up
to 2" in height. Manufacturers of small products such as medical
instruments, gears, and fishing lures can now scan the actual object
rather than commission a host of photographs.

For Macintosh users, the TruScan 3D Color Scanner is System 7.0 compatible,
but can still be used with System 6.0.X. The scanner is packaged with
Adobe Photoshop LE and is also compatible with LetraSet's ColorStudio and
Enhance from MicroFrontier.

For the PC platform, the new color scanner includes a Windows 3.0 scanning
application program and a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) is available for ease
of integration in any Windows 3.0 application.

Another feature of the new 3D color scanner is its ability to scan to disk.
Users are not limited to the RAM in their computer. The 3D color scanner
is compatible with Truvel's unique Zebra option board, a realtime image
processing board that detects very fine lines in line-art scanning.

The price of the TruScan 3D Color Scanner starts at $8695.00.

Truvel, a division of Vidar Systems Corporation, has relocated to Herndon,
Virginia. Truvel has been manufacturing scanners for the computer
workplace since 1987 and was the first to introduce a color scanner for
the Macintosh. The TruScan 3D Color Scanner is the latest in Truvel's
product line.
