June 8, 1992 -- Mountain View, California -- Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced that it has signed an agreement with Hayden, an imprint of Prentice Hall Computer Publishing, to create Adobe Press, a joint book-publishing venture. Adobe and Hayden will work together to develop and distribute high-quality books in both traditional paper format and electronic format. Topics for the books include graphic arts, Adobe computer applications, and advanced technologies. The books will also encompass the role, function, and art of typography, as well as how best to use Adobe's technology in the graphic arts and printing industry. "We believe combining Adobe's knowledge of computer science, computer graphics, and typography with Hayden's knowledge of book production, marketing, and distribution will create 8 very successful book publishing venture," said Clinton Nagy, Adobe's vice president, Communications Products Division. "We look forward to working with Hayden on producing quality books and exploring new formats in publishing." "The goal of Adobe Press is to publish books that contain practical information and whose design, typography, and materials make them a pleasure to own," said Mike Britton, publisher of Hayden and of Adobe Press. Hayden and Adobe will collaborate on Adobe Press books with technical guidance from Adobe engineers, designers, art directors, and typographers. They will be published and distributed by Hayden. Adobe Press will begin publishing books in the summer of 1992. Design Essentials, with Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, the first title in the Professional Studio Techniques series, is expected to be the first book available. Books from Adobe Press will be available through Prentice Hall Computer Publishing's distribution channels, including bookstores throughout the country, as well as through direct mail. Foreign language translations will be available in select markets in Europe and the Pacific Rim. All books will be published simultaneously in the United States and Canada.
