Andover Massachusetts - July 23 1992. -- Aries Systems Corporation today announced the immediate availability of the AIDSLINE AIDS journal literature reference database on CD-ROM. AIDSLINE includes all citations and abstracts on the AIDS literature published to-date by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Sources include journal articles references selected from various National Library of Medicine databases, meeting abstracts, monographic references and audiovisual materials. The database focuses on the biomedical, epidemiologic, social and behavioral sciences literature. AIDSLINE on CD-ROM is accessed using Aries Systems' innovative Knowledge Finder retrieval software (available for both IBM PC/compatible and Apple Macintosh computers). Knowledge Finder uses probabilistic retrieval (also known as fuzzy logic) techniques. This lets users create English-style search queries, and presents search results in order of their likely relevance to the query. Designed for use by novice and experienced searchers, Knowledge Finder's powerful retrieval techniques simplify the searching process, and often finds materials that traditional Boolean searching misses. The AIDSLINE CD-ROM is presently updated on a quarterly basis. Ongoing annual subscriptions are available at $245 for an individual, and $395 for an institution. As a special courtesy to attendees of the VIII International Conference on AIDS held recently in Amsterdam, Aries Systems is offering the first issue of the CD-ROM at no charge (one per individual through the end of 1992). Attendees need only contact Aries, and the CD-ROM and the search software will be sent to them (anywhere in the world). Lyndon Holmes, president of Aries Systems, noted, 'We're making this offer to help facilitate access to the literature as a research and treatment tool. History has shown that the rate of scientific progress and discovery can be accelerated, and human welfare enhanced, if key pieces of knowledge are available where and when needed. With improved access to the latest literature, researchers, clinicians and caregivers may be better able to carry out the critical fight against AIDS." Aries Systems Corporation was founded in 1986, to develop innovative information retrieval and dissemination products, with special emphases in the fields of biomedicine and science. Aries Systems works cooperatively with other organizations in the information and health care industries, to identify and deliver improved knowledge access and delivery tools.
