June 18, 1992 -- CINCINNATI, OHIO--Automation Software Consultants, Inc. (ASCI) announces the release of The Network C Library for NetWare. version 2.0. The Network C Library is a collection of nearly 400 functions useful for writing utility programs or commercial applications that need direct access to NetWare services and statistics. The Network C Library provides the C programmer with access to NetWare accounting services, bindery management, connection services, console services, directory and file management, file server statistics, locking services, message and IPX communication services, printing and queue management services, security and rights, semaphores, transaction tracking and workstation services. Functions are provided for all versions of NetWare including versions 2.2 and 3.11. Version 2.0 enhancements include the addition of over 40 functions providing support of NetWare 386 specific features such as file trustee assignments, 386 file attributes, encoded passwords, inherited rights masks, file purging and salvaging and user and directory space limits. Functions are also provided that give transparent support for both 286 and 386 versions of NetWare where possible. These functions determine the current version of NetWare running and then map to the appropriate service. New functions are also provided to simplify attaching to new file servers from inside an application. The network C library includes over 500 pages of documentation explaining the use of each function and providing general discussions of software development with NetWare. Over 100 sample programs, including source code for most NetWare command line utilities such as the map, user list, nprint and capture utilities, help illustrate the use of each function. Other sample programs include a network wide file find utility, utilities for bindery management such listing, adding or removing users and two peer to peer chat programs. Sample programs are included in the manual and on disk. The Network C Library for NetWare now supports Microsoft C, Quick C, Turbo C and Borland C++ and is available for $295.
