HYPERLOGIC RELEASES OWL VERSION 2.1 WITH WINDOWS DLL SUPPORT Escondido, California -- July 17, 1992 -- HyperLogic Corporation, based in Escondido, California, today announced the addition of a Microsoft Windows DLL version of the OWL Neural Network Library in its new Version 2.1 release. The Dynamic Link Library allows Windows-based applications to transparently access all of the available memory in a user's system. Windows applications avoid the limitations of running under DOS, making it easier to create large networks on the PC. They also allow OWL network applications to utilize Windows interprocess communication facilities, making it possible to apply neural networks to data in spreadsheets and databases. "Windows has become an important target for applications development," remarked Fred Watkins, President of HyperLogic Corporation. "The tools now available make it far easier than ever before to program under Windows. Packaging the OWL as a DLL makes it accessible to a much larger user base. " The OWL is a popular C-language neural network programming library containing over 20 fundamental paradigms. A graphical DOS-based user interface library, Owlgraphics, and sample DOS- and Windows-based program applications are featured in Version 2.1 for the PC. Multiple programs can be created and as many as 128 networks can be used simultaneously in a single Windows session. Only the amount of available memory limits the size of the networks. The library is designed to support engineering applications as well as academic research efforts. Created in 1988 by Olmstead & Watkins, the OWL was acquired by HyperLogic in 1991. It is used at hundreds of sites worldwide. OWL networks are known for their flexibility. The OWL's powerful BKP algorithm emulates many "radial basis networks" as well as the classical "Backpropagation" procedure. OWL networks support concatenation, which allows the user to use many more network configurations than the ones supplied. This usually eliminates the need to write new network algorithms. For example, the "Counterpropagation" network is built by concatenating two of the networks found in the OWL baseline package. HyperLogic Corporation is devoted to supporting the use of advanced software technology in intelligent computing systems, especially the use of neural networks and fuzzy logic. HyperLogic Corporation also markets the popular CubiCalc series of products designed for the development and deployment of fuzzy systems. CubiCalc family products are currently in use at advanced technology centers around the world.
