introduction of the SBC-486. a compact, 100% PC-compatible single board
computer which offers 486-class performance. flash memory capability. and
an advanced video controller. The board's 25 MHz Cx486SLC processor
executes the 486SX instruction set and all operating systems designed for
it. including DOS and Windows. The processor incorporates an on-chip one
kbyte cache. which helps it perform more than twice as fast as a 386SX at
the same clock frequency. This high-performance computing is required by
processor and graphics intensive applications.

In addition to the full complement of standard PC functions. the SBC-486
provides up to 768k of flash ROM. Flash memory gives you the ability to
erase and reprogram without removing the device from the board. making
program changes for embedded applications very simple. Alternatively. the
SBC-486 has up to 1.5M of on-board ROM/RAM disk for fixed program storage.
This semiconductor disk ensures quick boot up and reliable operation in
the most demanding environments. The board also includes up to 16M of
DRAM.

The SBC-486's on-board video controller directly drives CRTs and flat panel
displays. It will drive 256 simultaneous colors on active matrix TFT or
passive matrix color LCDs. It can also drive both 640x480 and 640x400 El
displays. and provides 16 distinct gray levels on monochrome LCDs.

Other board features include its small size (5.75" x 7.75"). low 7W power
consumption, hard and floppy disk controllers, a battery-backed real-time
clock, and SBX interface, and a math co-processor socket.

The SBC-486's software support makes it especially easy to use in embedded
applications. Computer Dynamics proprietary ROMing software easily takes
your application code from your DOS development environment to
semiconductor disk, allowing you to eliminate disk drives.
