CYPRESS, Calif, July 13, 1992 -- Mitsubishi Electronics America, Inc. today
announced that its parent company, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation
(Tokyo), will begin manufacturing Aperture-Grille cathode-ray tubes (CRT)
incorporating Trinitron technology acquired in an agreement with Sony
Corporation.

With the agreement, Mitsubishi Electric will become the first company to
acquire Sony's patents for the Trinitron design and manufacture CRTs based
on this technology. Mitsubishi Electric will incorporate the CRTs into its
own brand-name display monitors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM)
display monitors. The company also may sell the CRTs as component parts.

Mitsubishi Electric currently is one of the world's leading suppliers of
Shadow-Mask CRTs, a technology used by all other CRT manufacturers. The
company will continue to manufacture Shadow-Mask CRTs in addition to the
Aperture-Grille format. The new Mitsubishi CRTs will blend technology from
the Aperture-Grille design with technological innovations developed for
Mitsubishi's Shadow-Mask CRTs.

"Combining the best CRT technologies will enable Mitsubishi Electric to
create a truly unique and superior product," said Yoshihiko Shimonaga,
executive vice president for Mitsubishi Electronics America Inc.'s
Information Systems Division. "By offering the two most popular CRT
formats to our customers we will continue to maintain our leadership
position," he added.

To accommodate production of the CRTs, Mitsubishi Electric will invest
$11.5 million in its Kyoto Works manufacturing facility in Japan.
Production is scheduled to begin later this year and will reach a
projected capacity of 500,000 units annually by 1994 or 1995.
