SIX CD-ROM PUBLISHERS JOIN EXPANDED ELECTRONIC ARTS AFFILIATED LABEL PROGRAM SAN MATEO, Calif., July 29--Electronic Arts will distribute CD-ROM software for six publishers through a strategic expansion of its affiliated labels program, the company announced today. Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) will begin to distribute CD-ROM titles in August to meet the increasing demand for these products, according to Nancy Smith, vice president for sales. The six CD-ROM publishers joining the Electronic Arts Distribution (EAD) program are: Ebook; Humongous Entertainment, Inc.; ICOM Simulations, Inc.; NovaLogic; Pop Rocket, Inc.; and Zelos!. "As we bring the best of the CD ROM publishers into our AL program, Electronic Arts will work with retailers to develop this important new product category," said Smith. "This program will help ensure that Electronic Arts and our affiliated publishers maintain a market-leading position in interactive entertainment." Other ongoing members of the EAD program include Millennium, Mindcraft Software, Inc., Strategic Simulations, Inc., and Three Sixty Pacific, Inc. "As the industry's leading affiliated label program in North America, Electronic Arts remains committed to presenting-the best of the independent publishers through the broadest retail channel possible," said Kelly Conway, director of affiliated labels. A brief sketch of each of the CD-ROM publishers follows: * Ebook publishes art and literature titles. Its first titles for EAD will be Aesop's Fables; Renaissance Masters, Part 1; and Twelve Roads to Gettysburg. * Humongous Entertainment, Inc. was formed in March of this year. It plans to produce Junior Adventures titles for children 3-6 and Graphic Adventure titles for consumers 15 and over. Its first title for EAD will be Putt-Putt Joins The Parade. * ICOM Simulations, Inc., produces both Entertainment titles and utility software. Its CD-ROM titles include "Sherlock Holmes, Consulting Detective," at present the only interactive movie with 90 minutes of quality video on CD. Future titles for EAD include Sherlock Holmes II and Earth Invitational. * NovaLogic, Inc. is a Tarzana, Calif.-based publisher. Its first two titles for EAD will be battle simulations for "floppy" media. NovaLogic plans CD-ROM releases in 1993. * Pop Rocket, Inc., is a San Francisco-based software publisher headed by Joe Sparks, who co-developed Spaceship Warlock for Reactor. Pop Rocket's first product for the EA affiliated labels program will be a rock'n'roll adventure called Total Distortion. * Zelos! is a San Francisco-based publisher of informational CD-ROM titles.
