(TUCSON, AZ - August 7,1992) - Artisoft, Inc., the developer of the
LANtastic Local Area Network, announced today it has become the first
leading Network Operating System (NOS) manufacturer to create its own
Ethernet Integrated Circuit, code named ALICE (Artisoft's LAN Interface
Chip for Ethernet). In addition to using the chip on its future adapters,
Artisoft is offering a complete solution to PC and peripheral
manufacturers.

"For the first time, PC manufacturers will be able to make a true
network-ready PC using our IC along with a version of our LANtastic NOS,"
commented Jack Schoof, Artisoft's Chairman and CEO. "We anticipate many
high-end PCs, notebooks, palmtops, and Pen computers will become
network-ready in the near future. Artisoft is poised to enter this new
market with both hardware and NOS software. Our resellers will gain
additional opportunities for networking, since most new computers are
delivered into existing computer installations."

Artisoft created the first fully compatible Windows networking product,

a core which we can use to create new silicon-based connectivity
products," Schoof stated.

In keeping with Artisoft's commitment to open systems and interoperability,
Artisoft has created a single IC that is software compatible with three
major industry standard Ethernet designs, Artisoft's AE-2 and Novell's
NE1000 and NE2000. ALICE supports both the ISA (Industry Standard
Architecture) bus and IBM's Microchannel bus in a single part.

"For the manufacturer, multiple bus support means having a single part in
inventory. For the user, design compatibility means the ability to use
protocols such as TCP/IP, SNMP and all types of Network Operating Systems
like LANtastic, Novell NetWare, LAN Manager, LAN Server and Banyan with
existing drivers for the large installed base of AE-2, NE1000 and NE2000
adapters," according to Schoof. "As new network operating systems become
available such as NetWare 4.0 or Windows NT, existing ODI or NDIS drivers
already written for NE1000 and NE2000 adapters can provide the support for
ALICE."

"Since Artisoft is a software company, we were able to include features
that are most needed by our resellers and customers. ALICE is completely
software configurable, making networks easier to install and maintain.
Because Artisoft also makes hardware, ALICE has been designed from the
ground up to be ideal for the manufacturer. It requires a small amount of
board area and has been built with the low power requirements of laptops
and palmtops in mind. For the peripheral manufacturer, ALICE-equipped
printers, faxes and modems with networking built-in could become a
reality," says Schoof.

Engineering samples of ALICE are available immediately to qualified
manufacturers.
