NEC UNVEILS SELECT SOLUTIONS FOR CAD FEATURING AUTODESK SOFTWARE OPTIMIZED
FOR NEC DESKTOP SYSTEMS

Boxborough, Massachusetts, August 17, 1992--NEC Technologies, Inc. has
teamed with Autodesk to provide high-quality computer-aided design (CAD)
systems. The resulting NEC Select Solution systems offer fully integrated
and configured turnkey systems to a broad range of CAD users.

NEC Select Solution systems for CAD are defined and configured in NEC's
software labs, in collaboration with Autodesk, for optimum performance,
ease-of-use and greatest functionality. DOS, Windows and hardware
configurations are defined, tuned and optimized for Generic CADD 6.0 and
the selected hardware platform. The entire system environment is then
factory installed onto the hardware and fully tested prior to customer
shipment.

Each of the NEC Select Solution systems for CAD are based on NEC's
PowerMate Image series of desktop computers with local bus video
technology, a large hard disk, extra RAM, a renowned MultiSync FG monitor
and Autodesk Generic CADD 6.0 optimized for peak performance on NEC
hardware.

In addition to ensuring the best configuration of hardware components, NEC
has spent considerable time to tune and optimize each and every
configuration parameter. Disk caching, memory interleaving, video memory,
device drivers and many other hardware and software configuration elements
are carefully selected and adjusted. For users running Generic CADD 6.0
under Windows 3.1, NEC has pre-configured all Windows parameters to ensure
the most efficient operation of Windows on the hardware platform.

All NEC Select Solution systems for CAD also can be made Network Ready,
whereby network hardware and Novell software are pre-installed and
configured for immediate use upon connection to the network.

NEC SELECT SOLUTION SYSTEMS FOR CAD: PRODUCT OFFERINGS FOR THREE SPECIFIC
GROUPS OF CAD USERS

The power behind NEC Select Solution systems for CAD are the PowerMate
Image series of 486-based desktop computers. Designed especially for
graphics performance and crisp, clear information display, the PowerMate
Image series features ImageVideo, NEC's first-to-market implementation of
local bus video technology; and ImageSync technology, which allows the
Image system to sense when it is connected to a MultiSync FG monitor and
automatically adjust to the highest refresh rate. The Image series also is
noted for its expandability via industry standard SIMM modules and
user-upgradable motherboards.

Central to the CAD Solutions is Autodesk's Generic CADD 6.0 software.
Pre-installed and optimized for NEC's hardware, Generic CADD 6.0 performs
everything from initial sketches to conceptual design, final presentation
drawings and full-scale projects. The versatile package includes features
such as nested commands, 256 layers, named layers, multiple viewports or
windows, fitted hatch patterns and associative dimensioning. Generic CADD
comes with over 500 symbols and more than 35 fonts, including 10
typeset-quality fillable fonts and 19 AutoCAD fonts.

Professional Layout

Based on a PowerMate Image 486SX/25i desktop computer with a 120 MB hard
disk drive, the Professional Layout solution is targeted toward
architects, engineers, and designers who are newly converted to CAD, or
those working with large pre-defined AutoCAD drawings. Easily expanded and
upgraded, this solution has 4 MB of RAM, 3.5"1.44 MB and 1.2 MB floppy
drives, a 15-inch MultiSync 3FGx monitor, and a Microsoft 400 DPI mouse,
Generic CADD 6.0 and Microsoft Windows 3.1 fully configured/optimzed and
factory installed on the hard disk.

The Professional Designer

For complex designs comprised of hundreds of layers, NEC offers the
Professional Engineer, a Select Solution system based on the PowerMate
Image 486/50i desktop computer. The Professional Engineer includes a 240
MB hard disk drive, 12 MB RAM, a 17" MultiSync 5FG monitor, full-featured
2D modeling, and Microsoft Windows 3.1 fully configured/optimized and
factory installed on the hard disk.
