TECH DATA SIGNS AS FIRST DISTRIBUTOR OF PROXIM'S RANGELAN FAMILY OF
WIRELESS LAN ADAPTERS 

Integrators, Resellers and End Users To Have Access To Cost Effective
Solution For Extending Existing LANs

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., August 3, 1992 -- Proxim Inc., a leading supplier of
wireless networking products, today announced that it has signed an
agreement with Tech Data to distribute its RangeLAN family of wireless LAN
adapters for desktop and portable PC users.

The RangeLAN products to be distributed by Tech Data include RangeLAN/ISA
($495 SRP), a network interface card that fits into an ISA desktop
computer, and RangeLAN/LT ($595 SRP), an adapter card designed for a wide
range of Compaq Computer Corporation's notebook computers, including the
COMPAQ LTE Lite and LTE 386s series of notebook computers. RangeLAN/ISA
and RangeLAN/LT currently operate with Novell NetWare 2.X, 3.11, and Lite,
and will soon provide driver support for Artisoft's LANtastic, and the
NDIS driver standard, which supports LAN Manager, Banyan Vines and most
implementations of TCP/IP.

"Our signing of Tech Data to distribute RangeLAN represents a significant
move toward the adoption of wireless LAN technology," said Paul Smith,
vice president of marketing for Proxim. "The wireless LAN market, while
still in its infancy, is poised to grow quickly, and this distribution
agreement means resellers, integrators and end users will have greater
access to this technology," Smith added.

RangeLAN uses spread spectrum radio frequency technology that, unlike
conventional radio frequencies, does not require Federal Communication
Commission (FCC) licensing. All products in the RangeLAN family are based
upon the same architecture and protocols, allowing complete
interoperability across the entire product line.

The RangeLAN family of wireless LAN adapters are designed for desktop and
portable applications where wiring of LANs is difficult or impractical.
These applications include older buildings and factory floors, building
lobbies, work groups which move frequently, new LAN nodes which will
ultimately be wired but need to be connected immediately, and situations
where high labor and material costs make cable installation prohibitively
expensive.

In addition, Compaq LTE 386/20S and LTE Lite notebook computer users in the
office who move around during the day, and traveling professionals who do
in-office file transfers before and after trips, can take advantage of
RangeLAN/LT. All RangeLAN products are intended to extend LAN services of
existing wired LANs. RangeLAN's data rate of 242 Kbps positions it
perfectly for applications such as terminal emulation, E-mail, printer
sharing, modem sharing and small file transfers.
