MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif, September 7, 1992--Oce Graphics has entered the fast growing market for 500 to 800 dots-per-inch (dpi) wide-format, monochrome scanners. The G6000 Series provides greater resolution, data input quality and user convenience than competitively featured or comparably priced scanners. Two different models are matched to specific user segments. For GIS, CAD or mapping applications, the G6045 offers 15,000 pixels-per-scan line and 800 dpi to create sharp lines and dense drawings typically required in these applications. The G6035 is a 10,000 pixels per scan line 500 dpi scanner particularly suited for electronic data management system (EDMS), archiving, raster overlay and paper-to-CAD conversion required by the mechanical, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) markets. The G6035 can scan an E-size drawing in as little as 90 seconds into a 300 dpi RLC file. Both scanners use reliable charge coupled device (CCD)-based monochrome, pixel per-bit technology which allows the G6045 to recognize 4.5 line pairs per mm. This means that adjacent fine lines are accurately detected rather than seen as a single line. 256 grey scale levels detect lineshades, color densities, and details lost by less flexible scanners. The G6000 Series offers a complement to Oce Graphic's G9800 Series of high speed, direct imaging plotters, allowing Oce to provide a complete drawing management solution with both input and output peripherals. Advanced Software Control Both of the new Oce Graphics scanners offer a high degree of user control as well as automation of scanning functions. More than 35 file formats are supported, making the G6000 Series compatible with most popular GIS, CAD, EDMS and raster overlay packages. Scanning resolution may be varied via software in increments from 25 to 800 dpi with the G6045. Control of thresholding is accomplished in global, strip or tile modes and allows the user greater flexibility in eliminating either drawing defects or unwanted data. The threshold is the level at which scanner software defines all pixels above or below a certain range as either black or white. Drawing alignment, speckle removal, threshold value, rotation, previewing, and batch mode indexing are all automated in the new scanner's software. These features reduce operator intervention, save time and help increase output file quality. Ergonomic Design The G6000 Series scanners offer an attractive, form-follows-function design. Straight paper path loading protects valuable drawings and height adjustment makes life easier for users. A collection basket also eases drawing retrieval. A simplified scanner control panel and a high level user interface for scanning software provides a fast learning curve and increased productivity. Price and Availability The G6000 Series scanners range in price from $13,990 to $19,990. Distribution will be through Oce Graphics' organization of VARs. Connectivity kits for PC/AT and PS/2 platforms are available now. Sun and Apple Mac II kits will follow.
