Menlo Park, Calif., August 24, 1992-- During an election year, when political parties need efficient access to crucial information on donors and volunteers in order to better run effective campaigns, Gupta Technologies' client-server PC database software products are making this possible for the California Democratic Party. According to Yolanda Garcia, director of administration for the California Democratic Party, the new Gupta client-server system will streamline key activities and improve the quality and efficiency with which they can run their operations. "We will be better able to keep people informed on critical issues," said Garcia. "We'll be more effective in fund raising and volunteer recruitment, as well as assisting our volunteers who are knocking on doors and encouraging Californians to get out and vote. And we can use the information from this year's campaign for future elections, too." The California Democratic Party is upgrading its current database operations by installing Gupta's software products on their current PC network and turning it into a client-server system. The California Democratic Party currently has 20 PC nodes on a Novell NetWare (v.2.2 running on ArcNet) network in its Sacramento office, and 20 PCs on a NetWare (v.1.1 running on Ethernet) network in Los Angeles. They are using Gupta's SQLBase database, and developing applications using SQLWindows. And, PC users on the system will be able to easily access the database and generate their own reports using Quest for Windows. "We have outgrown our current database," said Garcia. "The client-server SQL approach will better handle our data and make it much easier to generate reports. And, it will grow with us indefinitely." The client-server SQL system will allow the California Democratic Party to consolidate all of its information into one manageable centralized database, and eliminate the inevitable redundancy that occurs with so-called flat file, or non-SQL, databases. Users in both the Sacramento and Los Angeles offices will be able to share one database and have access to the same information, which can be updated constantly. Gupta's SQLBase is compatible with the California Democratic Party's current database, so the conversion will be relatively simple. For users, the transition will be smooth, and the learning curve should be an easy one. About The California Democratic Party The California Democratic Party supports and provides services to state and federal political organizations and candidates. About Gupta Technologies Gupta Technologies, Inc., founded in 1984, is the leading vendor of client-server database software for PC networks. Introduced in 1987, Gupta's SQLBase Server was the first SQL database designed especially for PCs. The NLM version recently established a new performance standard for PC client-server databases. In addition, SQLBase is available for DOS, OS/2 and UNIX. SQLWindows has been instrumental in the growth of applications developed for client-server networks. Quest is a data access, query and reporting tool for end-users, and SQLNetwork is a family of software products (SQLGateway, SQLHost and SQLRouter) for connecting Gupta tools and servers to other server data sources including DB2, ORACLE, Informix, AS/400 Database, HP ALLBASE/SQL, HP TurboIMAGE, and others.
