\^[Esc] Exit\Cancel \^EXIT If the Highlight Bar is located in the Directory Window, pressing the [Esc] key will bring up the Exit Window. You will then have three options: a) Pressing [Esc] a second time allows you to completely EXIT the program and return to DOS. b) If a drawing file has been selected, pressing the [Enter] key at this time will EXIT the program and load AutoCAD with the selected drawing file. c) Pressing any other key at this time will cancel the EXIT operation and allow you to resume your previous action. \^CANCEL Pressing the [Esc] key at any other time cancels the current operation and lets you proceed with your previous action. \^[Alt][C] Copy\Move File(s) The Copy\Move procedure involves three steps. 1) Use the [Space Bar] to tag the files. 2) Press [Alt][C] to select the tagged files. 3) Move the Highlight Bar to the destination and press [Alt][C] again. \^Selecting the Source Files Locate the Highlight Bar on the directory that contains the source file(s). Then, use the [Space Bar] to tag the files that you wish to copy or move. When you are ready, press [Alt][C] to select the tagged files. You will be asked if you want to \^C^opy or \^M^ove the selected files. Press the corresponding letter and a path to the tagged files (the "From" path) will be displayed in a window on the bottom of the screen. \^Selecting the Destination Move the Highlight Bar to the directory where the files are to be copied or moved to. Press [Alt][C] a second time to select the destination. (The "To" path will be shown on the bottom of the screen). You will then be asked if the names of the target files should be different from the original. Answer "Y" and the Pop Up Window will appear allowing you to enter a file name or mask for the target file(s), or press "N" to retain the original names. (Continued) \^[Alt][C] Copy\Move (Cont.) When the function is initiated, the Pop Up Window will appear in the center of the screen. A counter will displayed in this window to show the number of files that remain to be copied or moved. As each file is processed, the current source and target file names will be displayed on the bottom of the screen. You may press [Esc] at any time to stop this procedure. To CANCEL this procedure after the source path has been selected ... Press the [Esc] key while the Highlight Bar is located in the Directory Window. You will be asked to verify that you wish to clear the "From" path. Type "Y" or press [Esc] to confirm this action. NOTE: Files cannot be Moved to a different drive. \^[Alt][D] Set to Drive Pressing [Alt][D] causes the Pop Up Window to appear. The current drive letter will be supplied as the default. Type in the letter of a valid drive and the new directory and file information will be displayed. \^[Alt][F] Find File Pressing [Alt][F] causes the Pop Up Window to appear. Displayed in the window will be the current File Mask. Type in the name of a file, or use the global characters "?" and "*" to scan for any matching file. Press [Enter] when you are satisfied and the file search will be initiated. First, DirecTREE will change to the root directory. Then, the alphabetical list of directories will be scanned for matching file names. When a match is found, the Highlight Bar will be placed in the File Window where you will regain control. Normal File Window functions ([PgUp], [PgDn], Delete, Rename, View, etc.) will operate as expected. Press [Enter] or [Esc] to return to the Directory Window and resume the search. The Pop Up Window will appear asking you to verify if you wish to continue, type "Y" to proceed. To Cancel the search, press any key. The Pop Up Window will appear asking you if you wish to continue. Type "N" or press [Esc] to terminate the search. NOTE: The File Mask is modified during the find file operation. \^[Alt][M] Modify File Mask Pressing [Alt][M] causes the Pop Up Window to appear. The current File Mask will be supplied as the default. Modify the mask (global characters "*" and "?" are accepted) and press [Enter] when you are satisfied. The new list of matching file names will be displayed in the File Window. NOTE: Refer to the DOS manual for more information on the global characters "*" and "?". \^[Alt][N] Edit New Drawing File Before executing this function, place the Highlight Bar on the directory which will contain the new file. Pressing [Alt][N] causes the Pop Up Window to appear. Type in the new drawing file name, press [Enter] when you are satisfied and the Exit Window will pop up ... a) Press the [Enter] key to Exit the program and load AutoCAD with the new drawing file name. b) Pressing any other key at this time will cancel the current operation and allow you to resume your previous action. \^[Alt][O] DOS Operating System Shell Pressing [Alt][O] brings up the Pop Up Window allowing you to verify the Shell function. Type "Y" and a DOS session will be initiated. At the bottom of the screen, a reminder is displayed, "Type EXIT to return to DirecTREE". NOTE: The shell function can be disabled while AutoCAD is running. If you would like this option to be enabled, you must run the DTConfig program. (Use caution if you shell to DOS while AutoCAD is running.) \^[Alt][R] Rename Directory\File Pressing [Alt][R] brings up the Pop Up Window allowing you to modify the name of the highlighted directory or file. On the first line of the Pop Up Window, the original name will be displayed. Modify the name, press [Enter] when you are satisfied and the name will be updated. \^[Alt][S] Select New Sort Field Pressing [Alt][S] allows you to select a new file sort field. The Highlight Bar will appear on the top line of the File Window located over the current sort field. Use the right or left arrow keys to select a new sort field. Press [Enter] when you are satisfied and the newly sorted list of files will be displayed. \^[Alt][V] View text file Pressing the [Alt][V] key causes the "DView" program to be executed allowing you to view the ASCII contents of the highlighted file. (Refer to the documentation for the DView program for more information.) Press [Esc] or [Enter] to return to DirecTREE. \^[Space Bar] Tag/Untag Files Pressing the [Space Bar] toggles file tags on or off. A diamond will appear next to each tagged file. If the Highlight Bar is located in the File Window, the current file tag will be inverted. If the Highlight Bar is in the Directory Window, all of the file tags will be inverted. NOTE: If you move the Highlight Bar to a different subdirectory, all file tags will be turned off. \^[Any Other Key] Goto Matching Directory\File Typing any other character will cause that letter to be added to the end of the Scan String (which will appear above the Directory Window). DirecTREE will search through the current list of directory or file names for the first name that matches the Scan string. If a match is found, the Highlight Bar will be placed on the matching name. If you continue to type matching characters, the Scan string will be updated on the screen and DirecTREE will continue to search downward for a better match. The Scan string will disappear if no match is found in the list. Press the backspace key to delete one character at a time off the end of the Scan string. \^[Ins] Create New Subdirectory Pressing the [Ins] key brings up the Pop Up Window. Type in a new directory name and press [Enter] when finished. Before the new directory is created, you will be asked to verify this action. Type "Y" to confirm this operation. Type "N" or press [Esc] to cancel this procedure and resume your previous action. The new directory will be created in the current Base Directory (The Base Directory is located at the very top of the Directory Window). NOTE: Refer to your DOS manual for the maximum length of the Path from the root directory to the desired level. \^[Del] Remove Highlighted Directory\File \^If the Highlight Bar is currently located in the... \^Directory Window Pressing the [Del] key will cause the highlighted subdirectory to be removed if it is empty. Verify that no files or subdirectories exist prior to attempting to remove a directory. NOTE: The Base Directory can not be removed. \^File Window Pressing the delete key will allow you to delete the highlighted file. You will be asked to verify this action. Type "Y" to confirm removal of the file, or type "N" to Cancel and resume your previous action. If Files Are Tagged, the Pop Up Window will appear asking you if you wish to delete all tagged files. If you answer "Y", you will also be given the opportunity to confirm the deletion of each tagged file. NOTE: Directories and files which are marked as Read Only can not be removed. (Refer to your DOS manual for more information.) \^[+] Change to Highlighted Directory Pressing [+] changes to the subdirectory where the Highlight Bar is currently located. This directory will be placed at the top of the Directory Window where it will be referred to as the Base Directory. If any subdirectories are found, they will be displayed below this new Base Directory. NOTE: Refer to your DOS manual for more information about directories. \^[-] Change to Parent Directory Pressing the [-] key changes to the parent directory of the Base Directory. The parent subdirectory will become the new Base Directory and will be placed at the top of the Directory Window. The directory information for the new Base Directory will be displayed in the Directory Window. NOTE: If the Base Directory is the Root directory then pressing [-] key has no effect. Refer to your DOS manual for more information about directories. \^[Enter] Select Highlighted Directory\Drawing File When the Highlight Bar is located in the ... \^Directory Window Pressing the [Enter] key selects the highlighted directory and moves the Highlight Bar over to the File Window. \^File Window Pressing the [Enter] key selects the highlighted drawing file and moves the Highlight Bar back over to the Directory Window. The selected file is the file that will be loaded by DirecTREE. NOTE: The currently selected Path and File Name will be displayed in the Status Window. You may use the [Right] and [Left] arrow keys in place of [Enter]. \^[] Scroll Up Pressing the up arrow allows you to scroll upward through the current list of files or directories. \^[] Scroll Down Pressing the down arrow allows you to scroll downward through the current list of files or directories. \^[PgUp] Page Up One Screen Pressing the [PgUp] key causes the previous page of file or directory names to be displayed in the current window. If the Highlight Bar is already on the first page, pressing [PgUp] moves the Highlight Bar to the top of the screen. \^[PgDn] Page Down One Screen Pressing the [PgDn] key causes the next page of file or directory names to be displayed in the current window. If the Highlight Bar is already on the first page, pressing [PgUp] will move the Highlight Bar to the bottom of the screen. \^[Home] - Top of List Pressing the [Home] key causes the Highlight Bar to jump to the very first name in the Directory or File Window. \^[End] - Bottom of List Pressing the [End] key causes the Highlight Bar to jump to the very last name in the Directory or File Window. \^Loading the Selected Drawing File 1) First, use the [Enter] key to select the drawing file that you wish to load. (After this has been done, the path and file name will be displayed in the Status Window.) 2) Next, locate the Highlight Bar in the Directory Window and press [Esc]. 3) When the Exit Window appears press the [Enter] key. The AutoCAD Main Menu will then appear with the designated drawing file as the default. NOTE: Refer to help on "[Enter]" for more information about Selecting a drawing File. \^If you are having trouble^ loading AutoCAD for the first time: 1) Make sure you are executing the DirecTREE program by typing \^"DTREE"^ at the DOS prompt. 2) If you run AutoCAD from a batch file, make sure the format of the command is "ACAD %1 %2", otherwise, no default file name will be supplied at the Main Menu. 3) Be sure that there is a path to the DirecTREE subdirectory as well as your AutoCAD subdirectory.
