//SUM1 tm WELCOME TO SirlinVIEW CAD Information Management Sirlin Computer Corporation's new SirlinVIEW software allows non-CAD users to view AutoCAD drawing files on a standard personal computer. Now you can easily share and distribute your CAD drawings. //SUM2 SirlinVIEW allows users to: * Browse through large collections of drawing files * Share drawings with colleagues, managers and clients * Change zoom views, and turn layers on & off * Add notes to drawings for redlining or future reference * Link sets of drawings together * Print to laser or dot matrix printers; or plot to plotters * Protect the content of drawings * Avoid piles of drawings on desks, drawers, and in your car All this WITHOUT having AutoCAD loaded on your system! //SUM3 SirlinVIEW IS EASY TO USE: The program can be operated using either a keyboard or mouse. This is NOT a program just for CAD users. In fact, it can be operated by users with limited or no computer experience. The menu-driven user interface makes it easy to access viewstation's many features. On-line help is always just a keystroke away. //SUM4 SirlinVIEW READS AutoCAD DRAWINGS DIRECTLY: AutoCAD's ".dwg" files are read directly, so there is no need to convert file formats. You can be certain you are viewing the current version of your drawing. SirlinVIEW SUPPORTS READ-ONLY MEDIA AND NETWORKING: Since SirlinVIEW treats all AutoCAD drawings as read-only files, it is ideally suited for read-only media and networking environments. Drawings may be archived on WORM drive (write-once, read-many), distributed on CD-ROM, or shared on a network using viewstation. //SUM5 YOU CAN LINK SETS OF DRAWINGS TOGETHER: The unique and powerful Hyper-Link capability of viewstation allows sets of drawings to be tied together. A Hyper-Link indicates that the area of one drawing connects directly to another specific drawing. The linked drawing can be loaded by pointing to this region. HOW HYPER-LINKS WORK: Consider a manufacturing company which has drawings for a mechanical assembly, including a General Assembly drawing, and separate drawings for each component part. With the General Assembly drawing displayed with SirlinView, the user may link to the detail drawing of each part by clicking on the part. The detailed drawing for the part will be loaded and displayed. //SUM6 YOU CAN ADD NOTES TO YOUR DRAWINGS: SirlinVIEW lets you REDLINE your drawings by adding Posted Notes. Note cards may be attached to specific locations in a drawing. A small, numbered marker is drawn on the screen wherever a note has been placed. When the user selects a marker with the mouse (or arrow keys), its corresponding note card pops-up on the screen so the user can read and/or edit its contents. Notes are stored separately from the drawing file, thereby protecting the integrity of the drawing file and allowing different users to have their own sets of notes. //SUM7 EXAMPLES OF HOW SirlinVIEW VIEWSTATION IS USED: * On the factory floor of a manufacturing company, technicians reference the latest versions of drawings from a PC. * Viewstations installed in the drafting department and library of a large corporation permits access to technical drawings. Users can print copies on a laser printer. * Real Estate management personnel use SirlinVIEW to discuss leasing space options with prospective tenants. * AEC consultants have SirlinVIEW on a Laptop PC, and carry it to construction sites with their CAD drawings on-line. * A CAD department with 4 workstations archive their drawings to Optical WORM Drives, and use SirlinVIEW to browse and retrieve old drawings. //SUM8 MORE EXAMPLES: * The supervisors, clients and contractors of Engineering and Architecture firms use SirlinVIEW to review and annotate drawings at home and at the office, without carrying armfuls of drawing tubes. POSTED NOTES are used to pass comments back and forth. * The City Hall of a large city in Massachusetts allows public access to assessor's maps using SirlinVIEW. Citizens can walk in and use the system with no training, and print a copy of their property lot lines. * Government contractors are often required to deliver drawings in digital form. SirlinVIEW is delivered as part of the contract, for easy access to the drawings. //SUM9 MORE TO COME.... SirlinVIEW is just the beginning of a line of information management products from Sirlin Computer Corporation. In the coming months, we will enhance the viewstation kernel product: * SirlinVIEW/PLUS. Adds viewing of DXF and HPGL files. Database interfaces for dBase III+ and delimited ASCII files also included, lets users retrieve non-graphic data records using X,Y, block attributes, or element handles while viewing drawings. (Coming Summer, 1990). * Network Server Versions. (Coming Fall, 1990). * SirlinVIEW/RASTER. Adds support for scanned images, including CAD drawings, as well as other images (like photos or legal documents) associated with drawings. (Coming Fall, 1990). * SirlinVIEW/BUILDER. Create your own applications, menus, and data interfaces with the customization development kit. (Coming in 1991). Discounts will be available for SirlinVIEW owners wishing to upgrade to one or more of these enhancements as they become available. //SUM10 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: SirlinVIEW viewstation allows CAD-Drawing Users to access AutoCAD drawings without the expense and power required of full-blown CAD workstations. To move to the next frame, please press the key. //RUN1B To invoke the Main Menu, the user simply presses the space bar, or clicks on the Menu Button at top of the screen using the mouse. (Notice the Status Line along the bottom of the screen). //RUN1C The Main Menu allows access to the various viewstation operations. //RUN1D Notice that context- sensitive HELP is always available, to explain the menus and specific operations of the program. //RUN2A Let's load a drawing. The user selects Option 1- LOAD DRAWING //RUN2B A dialog box is displayed which shows the list of drawings available. You may choose the drawing by pointing to it. //RUN2C Let's choose the drawing named INDEX.DWG //RUN3A Using SirlinVIEW's unique HyperLink feature, this drawing is "linked" to a series of more detailed maps of each neighborhood. //RUN3B Let's load a map of one neighborhood. To do so, the user selects Option 2- HYPER-LINKS from the Main Menu. //RUN3C The linked regions are highlighted on the screen. By clicking inside one of these rectangles the drawing for this region is loaded. //RUN3D At this point, YOU TAKE CONTROL. Please move the cursor (with mouse or arrow keys), and select a link region (press enter or either mouse button). //RUN3E You are now asked to confirm you want to load the link drawing file. We will say OK and load the drawing. //RUN3F SirlinVIEW draws each entity... fast, and accurately! And you have the option to trade off accuracy for even faster redraws with over a dozen controls, like "greeking" small text. //RUN4A Let's now zoom up on the drawing. The user invokes the Main Menu again... //RUN4B And selects Option 3- CHANGE VIEW //RUN4C We can choose one of these options to change the view. //RUN4D or simply use the +/- keys to zoom in and out, and use the arrow keys to pan left, right, up, and down. //RUN5A In addition to zooming and panning, the user can turn layers on and off. //RUN5B From the Main Menu, we choose SELECT LAYERS. //RUN5C The list of layers in the drawing is displayed. Selecting a layer name will toggle it off (or on). Let's turn off the lot lines layer, PROPLINE. //RUN5D Notice that the asterisk, "*", beside layer PROPLINE has been removed. Let's also hide the lot description layer, LOTDESC. //RUN5E And now we select OK to redraw the screen without those layers. //RUN6A We will now add a Note to the drawing... //RUN6B by selecting Option 5- POSTED NOTES from the Main Menu. //RUN6C From the list of POSTED NOTES options, we will choose Option 1- ADD NOTE //RUN6D Again, YOU TAKE CONTROL. Specify where to place the note. Move the cursor with your mouse or arrow keys, and press enter or a mouse button. //RUN6E Now the user can type information onto the note card... //RUN6F Once the note is saved, a marker appears on the display. Markers stay the same size, regardless of the zoom factor. //RUN6G Your notes are stored in a separate file, and the original AutoCAD drawing is not modified. Each time you load the drawing, all of the note markers are displayed. //RUN7A Lastly, you can output the current view from the PRINT/PLOT menu. //RUN7B You have the option of including a title line, text description of the plot, and setting the page margins. //RUN8A In the next year, Sirlin Computer will begin releasing database interface drivers for viewstation. You will be able to use your CAD drawings to retrieve information from non-graphical databases. //RUN8B For example, we could look up the database record for one of the houses in this neighborhood. //RUN9A To exit SirlinVIEW, choose EXIT from the Main Menu.
