June 7, 1991 KLEANBBS is written in Turbo C 2.0, and removes ANSI codes from text files as well as backspace characters. It was inspired by ANSI-RIP II, which didn't quite fix the text the way it should look when printed, and didn't remove backspace characters. ANSI-RIP II removed the ANSI codes, but didn't move the text into the proper position. The intent of ANSI-RIP II, and now KLEANBBS, is to remove ANSI codes from text captured from BBS or any on-line systems which use ANSI codes for color or music. KLEANBBS also removes backspace characters, moving the text into the proper position as it would appear on the screen, suitable for printing. As the author of ANSI-RIP II says, "Trying to print these captured files can be a real challenge (unless you know a little bit about ANSI, and have a text editor which supports regular expressions) OR if you've got ANSI-RIP II!" To which, I'll add KLEANBBS. Say, you have CAPTURE.TXT which is a BBS capture file from a Bulletin Board which uses ANSI escape sequences. To print the file and remove the codes, just type: KLEANBBS CAPTURE.TXT KLEANBBS will remove the codes and send it to CAPTURE.OUT. You can also simply type: KLEANBBS KLEANBBS will then prompt you for the name of the file to convert. Whatever name you supply will be used for the output file, with the extension set to .OUT. You can also type: KLEANBBS CAPTURE.TXT MYFILE.LST thus specifying the name for the output file to have. If you like this program, and want the source, it's $10 to me; otherwise it's free.
