DOS 5.0 TUTOR Written by Frank Duchna & Carsten Bockstette This program was designed to help you people out there that are having problems with the different MS-DOS commands. There was a lot of work put into the program and the programmers would appreciate a little help from their fans. If you like the program and intend to use it after a ten day free trial period, we would like you to register it. This registration will only cost you $9.00 and it would give you a great amount of benefits. One of these benefits would be that you would receive notice of the newest files currently on the line of our work, and you will receive version updates of this program. You can print out the registration form by running the TUTOR program and going to the exit screen form where you can call up the registration form. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS: ---------------- MS-DOS 5.0, DOS 5.0 and DOS 5 are registered trademarks of the MICROSOFT, INC. If you don't, then this program either won't do anything, or at least not what you expected. But if you follow these guidelines, you will have many fun hours learning DOS 5.0. 1. You can type any DOS command from anywhere in the program. Even if you are in the Menu for Other Commands, you can still look at another command in the DOS commands Menu. You only have to type the name of the command in at the prompt and you will get a nice-looking window with the explanation in it. There is one problem though, due to space in that window we were forced to not combine similar commands for a different program in one explanation. This might come as an inconvenience to the user, but was the only way we could fix it. In the Other Commands menu there are different areas listed and under each there is a list of different commands. To see explanations from this menu you have to type the first letter of the group and then the command. Example: To see the Device command in the group CONFIG.SYS COMMANDS you would type it as follows: CDEVICE n o t (C)DEVICE This makes it easier for the programmer, because of limited window space. We hope to be able to come up with a better solution. If you have one already, let us know, and we will incorporate it into the next version 2.0. To install the program on drive "C" , you just type: INSTALL at the dos prompt. The install program will do the rest. Then you just have to change the current directory to c:\tutor by typing at the dos prompt: CD C:\TUTOR5 After installing and changing the directory, just type in: TUTOR and press . The commands are classified with INTERNAL and EXTERNAL. INTERNAL simply means that the command can be typed from anywhere, and does not have to be in the current directory or the path. EXTERNAL means that the command can only be used if the file for that command is in the current directory or the path. SAFETY CHECK ------------- This is the list of files that have to be with the program in the same directory, in order to keep the program running. There is an added safety feature with this list: The list includes the byte-size, so that you can check if the files were tampered with.
