============================================================ 1. Before installing, you should have selected which typefaces you want to use and called the 800 number in the manual to obtain the unlocking codes. 2. Place the LJ disk in the reader and log to the CD drive (assume L: for this memo). Change to the CDLOCK sub directory and execute CDLINST. Select "Install CD Unlocking Software" from the menu. CDLINST will create a CDLOCK directory on the boot drive and copy need files to it. CONFIG.SYS will be modified with: Device = C:\CDLOCK\CDLOCK.SYS. REBOOT THE SYSTEM!! 3. Log to C:\CDLOCK. Execute CDKEYS. CDKEYS will ask the user for the serial number. The serial number is printed on the CD. When prompted for the Group, enter the volume number of the typeface which is being unlocked (format: vol#. For example, the Group for volume 2 is vol2.). Finally, enter the unlocking codes in the 3 groups indicated. Repeat the process for each category to be unlocked. At this point the typefaces are unlocked and ready to be installed. 4. Install the Type Director Software. Log to L:\TD and type INSTALL. INSTALL will create a TG_LJ directory on the C: drive. 5. Log to C:\TG_LJ and execute ADDTYPE. ADDTYPE will launch CDKEYS again; since the unlocking codes have already been entered, pres ESC. The volume numbers which have been unlocked will displayed. Enter the volume numbers for which you want to create specific fonts. If ADDTYPE does not find any typefaces available, there may be an error in the unlocking prodedure. Make sure you entered your keys exactly as they should be. If you receive an error when entering a key and you certain it was entered exactly as it was given to you by NEC, contact Technical Support at 800-366-3632. A member of the Technical Support staff can assist in verifying your keys. If all keys have been entered correctly, a subdirectory should appear for each volume if you do a DIR of your Type Gallery CD. If the keys are correct and the appropriate subdirectories are visible yet ADDTYPE still finds no typefaces available, it is possible other memory resident programs being used by your system (such as expanded memory managers), may be conflicting with the CDLOCK software. To insure this is not occuring, do the following: - Create a bootable floppy disk by formatting the disk with the /s parameter (format a:/s). Copy COMMAND.COM from your hard disk to this floppy. - Using EDLIN or a word processor, create a CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the floppy. These files should include only essential lines (path and prompt in the AUTOEXEC, files and buffers in the CONFIG) in addition to any lines which pertain directly to your CD-ROM drive and CDLOCK. - Boot with this disk in your `A' drive and once again run ADDTYPE. If ADDTYPE still fails to find any available typefaces, contact Technical Support for further assistance. 6. Execute TD. Begin in the Environment menu. Select the type of monitor, printer, and the software packages in which you wish to use the fonts. Default setting will be displayed. To change any field in Type Director, move the highlight bar to the field and press ENTER. A window will be displayed showing possible selections for that field. After setting the environment, press F8 to exit the menu. Move to Fonts menu. Select Make Fonts. A screen will appear listing one of the applications which was selected in the Environment menu. You must create fonts for each application separately. To change applications, move the highlight bar to that field, press ENTER, and select the desired application. - Once the desired application is selected, move to the Typeface field and press ENTER. A list of Typefaces will appear. Select the desired typeface. - Move to the Point Size field and enter the point sizes you wish to create. - Move to the Device field and choose which devices you want fonts created for (screen, printer, or both). - Move to Ori and choose which orientation to create the fonts for (portrait, landscape, or both). - SymSet (Symbol Set) designates which characters will be used. The US symbol set is the standard ASCII set. You do not have to use the whole set if you don't need it. Select Reduced Symbol set (ZZ), and choose specific characters which will be needed. Repeat the process for each typeface. When all data has been entered for all applications, press F1 to make the fonts and install them in the chosen applications. A message should appear showing that the installation was completed successfully. Exit Type Director. The fonts should appear in the applications. If they don't, make the sure the applications were properly selected in Type Director. If the fonts appear, but not in the proper point sizes, make sure the current selected printer is a Hewlett Packard Laser-Jet II or compatible. Note to WordPerfect 5.1 and Windows 3.0 users. The version of Type Director on your disk may not list these versions of WordPerfect and Windows in the supported applications section. If this is the case, contact Technical Support at 800-366-3632 for an updated version of Type Director.
