RIO SALADO GOLF COURSE A design for a Training Golf Course located by the Arizona State University Campus. This course layout is a design by Bob McGowan, originally designed for Nicklaus Unlimited Golf and revised for play with Jack Nicklaus Golf & Design - Signature Edition. The course is sited in the Salt River Bed, as a conceptual design for the Rio Salado Park area planned by the East Valley Communities. This challenging 18 hole course has a par of 73 and a course length of 6963 yards. It has a number of raised greens and numerous hilly fairways which require careful club selection to reach the best landing areas. The Spring runoff has provided the course with more water hazards than usual and Conservative play within normal club distance restraints is required to achieve Par or less. The combination of trees and desert shrubs, combined with naturally occurring cactus provide additional hazards for the errant drives. Read the hole quotations closely for hints on achieving par. Long drives or approach shots will result in some unexpected ball action, so take your time. Dan also tends to putt short on all greens. Dean consistently hooked his drives & approach shots. Hannah Luce was usually accurate on Tee shots and did well on the greens. None of the computer players seemed to discern Bunker locations, nor did they aim for the middle of the fairway. By using proper clubs, staying within the normal club distances and measuring the approach shots at each hole, Bob and Marlene managed under Par rounds. When you play any hole, use the Auto Caddy to measure your shots to insure you choose the proper club. All greens have five pin placements, some play shorter than the Pin 1 placement.
