Jones Valley Golf Club Huntsville, Alabama Designed By John T. Pape For JNUG VGA April 8, 1992 Huntsville, Alabama is in North Alabama approximately twenty miles from the Tennessee border. Including surrounding areas it has a population of a quarter million or so, many involved in high tech industry. Jones Valley, which is only minutes from downtown, forms a part of the eastern central city limit, and is so named for the Jones family and their farm, which is still active today. The Valley, as does Huntsville, lies between some small mountains which are actually foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains. Calm green fenced cattle pastures rise up the sides of the mountains and meld into the trees which cover them. There are a couple of routes through the Valley and I guess I've driven them thousands of times in my 30 years of residency in this area. The drive always serves to sooth me and gives me time to sort my thoughts and enjoy the peace and quiet. Often I've thought of what a golf course might look like tucked amongst the trees and pastures, and this JNUG offering is based on some of those thoughts. Though not real accurate, the background art does represent the gist of the scenery, for instance, the real expensive homes overlooking the Valley from the North, and the Jones Farm in traditional Southern architecture to the East. The trees represent the cedars, loblolly pines and others indigenous to the area. Hope you enjoy many rounds of JNUG golf at Jones Valley Golf Club! Playing Tips: * The traps on this course are fairly well hidden, so consult the overhead view frequently. * Except for the 18th, the par fives are reachable in two...I like to gamble, and like to make the rewards worthwhile. * Water has been strategically located and will force you to lay up or gamble in some cases. >> Comments may be sent to John Pape CIS 74676,2435 <<
