------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Norton pcANYWHERE 4.5 & OS/2 Version 2.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although pcANYWHERE 4.5 was not designed to operate under OS/2, several pcANYWHERE users and Norton Technical Representatives have been able to reliably establish connections under an OS/2 DOS BOX. Although pcANYWHERE will work fine as a REMOTE in an OS/2 DOS Box, running the HOST program may cause unusual problems or it may hang your system. If you wish to run the HOST program in an OS/2 DOS Box please read the following carefully. Failure to do so may cause unusual side effects or damage to your system. Symantec Corporation will not be held liable for any damage to your system. Before completing the following, it would be helpful for you to read the On-Line documents that came with OS/2 before creating Image files. Step 1: Create a DOS boot disk for AWHOST. Step 2: Create and IMAGE disk for the boot disk by using the VMDISK command. (Example: VMDISK A: C:\OS2\AWHOST.IMG) Enter IMAGE mode. Once in IMAGE mode, you can edit your DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. The following is an example: CONFIG.SYS: DEVICE=FSFILTER.SYS ;Please use OS/2 driver copied to image disk. DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\EMM386.SYS ;Please use OS/2 driver. DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\HIMEM.SYS ;Please use OS/2 driver. DOS=HIGH FILES=20 BUFFERS=20 AUTOEXEC.BAT: C:\OS2\MDOS\MOUSE ;Please use OS/2 Mouse Driver. PATH C:\;C:\DOS;C:\AWHOST ;Set Path. PROMPT $P$G ;Set Prompt. C: AWHOST -M=W ;Start AWHOST waiting for a connection. Step 3: Create an ICON for AWHOST. Step 4: Open the SETTINGS for AWHOST. Step 5: Change the DOS setting for DOS_STARTUP_DRIVE to C:\OS2\AWHOST.IMG) Step 6: Create a shadow of the ICON in the startup driver folder to automa- -tically boot the DOS session. Step 7: Shutdown and reboot. The following options should be disabled within the pcANYWHERE 4.5 HOST program: * Reboot On Disconnect (Security, Preferences. Set this option to NO.) * Special Keyboard Handler Types 1 & 2 (Features, Preferences. Set this option to NONE.) Other Specifics: * Do not use ZMODEM file transfers with AWSEND, use only pcANYWHERE Protocol. ZMODEM will most likely hang your system. * You may attempt remote printing from the HOST to REMOTE, if you experience problems try printing the HOST applications file to disk and then transferring to the remote for printout. _______________________________________________________________________________ SYMANTEC has a number of other useful documents available through this BBS.
