A: Make sure that your Printer is printing to LPT1:DOS instead of LPT1. Windows prints directly to the port and pcANYWHERE can not read it, therefore specifying LPT1:DOS instead of LPT1: will cause Windows to print through the BIOS. This process is slightly slower, but allows you to print to remote. Q: I have installed pcANYWHERE 4.5 BETA successfully to Windows 3.0 and it has worked fine. I installed Windows 3.1, and now the mouse and COM ports do not work correctly. What happened? A: In the BETA release of 4.5, pcANYWHERE installed an Enhanced Windows Driver called AWVCD.386 for Windows 3.0. When Windows 3.1 was released the new Microsoft driver (VCD.386) would not install because AWVCD.386 is already in the SYSTEM.INI. Having this driver in the Windows 3.0 SYSTEM.INI at the time of upgrade to Windows 3.1 did not cause any installation problems, but caused problems with Windows 3.1's mouse and comm port functions. Microsoft has informed the beta testers to replace AWVCD.386 with VCD.386. BETA testers will have to obtain the actual release copy of pcANYWHERE 4.5 from their Beta Coordinator. This release copy contains different drivers than those released in the beta version. Q: How can I speed up the Windows Screen Display? A: The AWREMOTE or AWLAN/Remote Operations Menu contains a special Swap File configuration option under Preferences/Remote Access Session. This option can be configured from 64K to 960K of graphics caching for use with Windows connections. Having this Swap File activated will prevent the host from re-sending the graphics information, hence lowering transmission time. If you do not have this feature, please contact technical support for an update. Another general reminder is that if you have an intense Wallpaper (BMP) displayed on your Desktop, you may want to disable it. Disabling the Wallpaper will allow for faster graphics transmission. Also, you may want your groups to be minimized on startup. Again, decreasing the amount of Desktop "clutter" increases the transmission speed. Q: Is there any way I can use my Super VGA display driver with pcANYWHERE? A: Yes, as shown on the previous page, the "DISPLAY=" line included in the PCAW.INI file can be changed to support Super VGA when pcANYWHERE HOST TSR is not loaded waiting for a call. To do so, replace the "DISPLAY=" line with your original SVGA display driver. Then add DISPLAY1=VGA.DRV. Windows will load with the Standard VGA driver only when the HOST TSR is loaded. The PCAW.INI file should appear as follows: [pcANYWHERE] MOUSE=AWORGMSE.DRV KEYBOARD=KEYBOARD.DRV DISPLAY=SVGA.DRV (This is for your Super VGA 800x600 or above driver.) DISPLAY1=VGA.DRV (This is the standard VGA.DRV 640x480 driver.) Q: I'm experiencing disconnects when running Windows remotely. If I call again, Windows is up and running and I can continue what I was doing. Why is this happening? A: Windows attempts to gain control of all your systems resources. It does this by enabling drivers and configuring system information found in your SYSTEM.INI file. There are some specific commands that need to be removed or remarked out of your SYSTEM.INI file. These commands are as follows: COM#Irq= COM#Base= COM#AUTOASSIGN= # is in reference to COM PORT settings that match that of what your modem is set to. Either remove these lines or place a semicolon (;) in front of these lines. Removing these will not harm your Windows applications. _______________________________________________________________________________ SYMANTEC has a number of useful documents that are available on this BBS.
