Programmer's File Editor Beta 2 Release The files that make up this beta release of PFE are: pfe.exe The Windows 3.1 executable pfe.hlp The help file $pfedos.exe A support module that handles running compilers, etc $pfedos.pif The PIF file for this module printmap.exe A diagnostic program that prints out saved key mapping files ddetest.exe A Visual Basic program that you can use to test PFE's DDE facilities (and also use on any other application) readme.txt General release notes changes.txt Summary of changes made files.txt This file You should place the first four files into the same directory, which should ideally be on your path. You needn't have the printmap.exe module on your hard disk, but you should keep it around in case you want to report a problem. If you set up your own key mappings, PFE will save them by default in files called pfe.key in your Windows directory. It will also set up an initialisation file called pfe.ini, also in your Windows directory. If you've been using the beta 1 release, be aware that many aspects of PFE have changed. Please read the development log 'changes.txt' for a list of what has altered; in particular, *.key files saved by the beta 1 release will not be recognised by this version.
