I have had the same expense in getting copies of old photographs
although I found someone trying to get started who has done good work
for me at less than a commercial studio.  However, for those who want
to do it yourself, get the book "PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR HERITAGE" by
Wilma Sadler SHULL, Ancestry Publishing P.O. Box 476, Salt Lake City,
UT 84110. Published 1988.

The author takes you through step by step what you need and how to
take the pictures.  At $7.95, the book is an excellent investment.
Maybe your local bookstore or genealogy supply resource will have it.
