ANCESTRAL ROOTS OF 60 COLONISTS Are you descended from the ancient royal families of Europe, with ancestors who sprang from the likes of Clovis I or Charlemagne? Ties of 60 early New England families to these and many other European kings are delineated in ``Ancestral Roots of Sixty Colonists,'' just published in its newly revised sixth edition. Most people who have early New England roots and have done a good job of digging them up are likely to find at least one ancestor here who is traced back to at least one royal family. And I mean back. This book traces some lines to Cerdic, a king of the West Saxons who was born in 519 AD. Just think: you may be descended from monarchs with such wonderful names as Cuthwine, Ceolwald, Aethelred, or Ingild. Or such later notables as Eleanor of Aquitaine, the Kings Henry, Alfred the Great, King John, Isabel de Vermandois, and so on. These lines were meticulously investigated by Frederick Lewis Weis, a former Naval officer and scholarly Unitarian minister who belonged to more than 50 historical and genealogical societies and wrote many books and manuscripts on historical and genealogical subjects. Through five previous editions, the book has been much updated and corrected, and new lines added. The latest edition was updated by Walter Lee Sheppard Jr. References are included for everything, and the 251-page book is completely indexed. ``Ancestral Roots'' is much more than just pedigrees: in many cases, biographies of some of the more interesting monarchs or settlers are provided. Obviously, this is a book with which you can trace not only historical roots, but have some fun doing it.
