The NEW ENGLAND HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY The New England Historic Genealogical Society, founded in 1845, is widely acknowledged to be the finest source of genealogical information on New England families. Besides its extensive collection of records on families, the society's library includes an entire floor of local histories for all states and Canadian provinces, a complete set of Massachusetts vital records for 1841 to 1895, the strongest U.S. center for the study of Canadian families, and more than 15,000 volumes on European families -- the largest private collection of its type. The society is also considered an excellent resource for information about British and Irish families. The society owns more than 200,000 genealogical books, one million manuscripts, and a genealogical staff widely known for its expertise. The society also publishes and reprints many books. The society's headquarters in Boston has six floors of research facilities. But for those who can't visit Boston easily, the society offers members a 20,000 volume circulating book loan collection -- books will be delivered right to your door. The two circulating book catalogues -- one for genealogies, one for local histories -- are hundreds of pages long. Each loan costs $8 and you can keep -- and copy -- up to three books per order for two weeks. Members receive the society publications, including: * the quarterly New England Historical and Genealogical Register, the oldest continously published genealogical journal in the United States.
